2002 26' Prowler speed?

2002 26 prowler with 496 HO? 65 mph?

Cigarette 30 03-25-2004 09:19 PM

26 speed

Had a 2003 26' 62-63 m.p.h. yet the Hot Boat test showed 68 m.ph. I inquired with the dealer AND the factory, Both said (Jay Ross at the time, with the factory) said that was with "ideal conditions, ie: low temp, perfect water, low fuel etc.

BTW when I had a 24" prop, lugged the motor, went to a lab 22"/ 23" helped to 65/66 m.p.h.

cigarette 30 do you remember the rpm you were running with the 24p and the rpm after with the 22p? cause i'm running 1998 26 w/ 502efi a few mods a 24p @ 4900 rpm @ 66 mph gps and plan to lab this from to spin 5200 this should get me a few more .

26 Sonic,

Yes very interesting story. With the 24", 4550 - 4600, when at the Lauderdale show I noticed that years factory 26" had a 22", and as such inquired (mine came with the 24") Jay said "some do better with the 22", try it. When I talked to the factory reps. (Merc) they said I must get the 496 in the "right r.p.m. range. If one drop in pitch would yield 200 r.p.m. s, the motor would then give another 200 at least, by being in the torque range designed. I did not believe them. Well, they were absolutely right ! Had the 24" "cleaned up", edges sharpened, just a little cup out, the boat ran 5000, and picked up 5 m.p.h. I swear I would have never believed it. Moral to the story, the new motors are meant to "turn". Anyway, a "reworked 24" netted a top end of 66/67 m.p.h. +-.

cigarette 30 so if my boat is already running a 26 p @4850-4900 66-67 gps then if i lab the 24p to grt 5100-5200 i may hit 70 mph ?

GO4BROKE 03-27-2004 06:16 PM

I doubt it, your motor is running toward the top of the rpm range already, there isn't much more power to be had. If you were below 4600 there would be some rpm's to be had. If you could run a labbed 28 without losing rpm's you MIGHT pick up speed. Labbing my props and adding cup made no speed difference. But they look pretty!

go4broke the funny thing is when i used to run a 23p 3 blade @ 4800 and then labbed it for 5000 rpm i went up 3mph ! thats why i think if i lab the 24p to run around 5100 i should get the 3mph back i lost in theory ? my rev limiters been changed to 5300 from 5150 .
