Sonic 425 vs 470

Shopping for Sonic 358 or Donzi 33zx. In regards to the Sonic is the 470 hp a much better match for this boat. than 415 or 425. Top Speep, reliability, holeshot ???

Re: Sonic 425 vs 470

415's (502 Mag MPI) are the most reliable and cheapest, probably upper 60's.
The 470's will put it in the upper 70's. Hole shot is more a factor of the prop. Run 4 or 5 blades, no problems. Although fast hole shots in a boat that size will break drives quickly.
As always, buy the most power you can afford.

Go with more power the first time .
We changed our power to the blue motors Had 496ho's
they worked good until you hit 60 then everything just came to a crawl
the 496's worked real well for cruise and were not bad on fuel 3400 rpm
it would run around 40mph . Same rpm on the blue motors is 53 mph
just my 2 cents

More is better. Blue motors will MUCH help your resale vaule. 525EFI is the sweetest stock Merc motor out there. Period.

The only problem with the Merc. 525's are they are on backorder. Merc. can't build them fast enough. The Merc. 500efi's in my 358 run approx. 78mph at 5000 rpm.

What prop do you use for that rpm -speed?

Roadrunner,
I have a stock 28 pitch bravo 4 blade, that is with 3-4 footers and half load of fuel. Note I have a 2001 with a notch,no boxes and XR drives.
