Re: Anyone Whipple a 358??

They eliminated the notched transom to deal with a polethera of issues. The boat with the big cabin lid just likes to bounce when coming up. The only way to reduce it is to pull some weight out of the bottom. Your notched boat was hand laid, the 02 could have been infused which eliminates some of the variables but regardless, the weight distribution just isn't right on the hull. Also depending upon what options you have installed that can impact the balance of the boat.

The blueprinting is more for weight distribution that straightness, but on the notched hand laid hull may add some additional benefit. We saw about 2-3mph and a lot less porpoise when coming up as the transom lift was much better. Also a set of boxes helps those hulls by putting the props into cleaner water. We saw 85-87mph on gps in FW at 5200rpm running about 620hp/side. Hope that helps.

Dano you still sell Sonic's in Cincy and if so do you have any 31's?

You know Dano knows his stuff, he can spell polethera!
I don't think he sells Sonic anymore.

My banker gave me that word when I asked him why my account was empty :D

He said..."Well it's a polethera of reasons, primarily related to your boating activities" Son, you need to find a way to loose money slower!

Yup, did the boat thangy...what a business :bunny:

Would there be same drive problems with the XR drives as with the XZ's on a 358?

Yup, XZ/XR doesn't matter much (at least I managed to smoke them both pretty frequently) you start running that hull with that kind of power it's inevitable. The stress to the drives is inherent in the hull design so either beef the drives, reduce the stress (and beef the drives if you like trouble free boating) or run a big azz set of SSM's. I'm not saying that it will happen immediately...but if you get 20-30hrs out of it I would be surprised. As far as hard planning etc. you will run "faster" hence the reason to install more hp to begin with. Most of the ones I smoked weren't on take off, but at speed(s).

As a sidebar...this is simply an extrapolation of my experiences. I claim no title to being an expert. It's yo' money and yo' boat (try a water pressure gage on the drive inlets and see what ya' get :D ) there are others that have cranked those hulls up and hopefully they will chine in as well. Good luck and happy boating!
