My partner bought my 00 42 Sonic, it has twinn TMP 750 EFI's on them with Bravos. The motors have 389 hours original, and the drives were just rebuilt for the second time. Boat orig had 500efi's, hull has about 450-500 hours. Boat is very clean, he is very easy on everything, but looking at a Nortech. Jeff

Call Mindy Doller at Doller Offshore. Being located at the Sonic factory she has access to trades and used customer boats.

I agree, but believe me, I just wonder sometimes if the bravo 1-3's are better than the xr's, its worked good for him. I did teach him how to drive her, go easy getting on plane, pull back on any waves larger than 2 feet, this was his first boat ever, and he bought it from me at 3 years ago, and put alot of trouble free hours on her.

Bigwavz,
I went and viewed that boat last week. It is pretty rough. Alot of stress cracks on side of deck by cockpit, refig flange bent up and ready to fall out, salt damage on drives, fittings, etc.

I looked at the 2003 in Pompano last week. Nice boat, no a/c. Dealer said it could be bought for 150k.

Pull back when waves are larger than 2 feet ? On a 42 foot boat ?

Thats why he had 189 hours on the drives with 750 hp. It works for him, and it goes to show you that being overly easy on a heavy boat such as the 42 with 750hp a bravo can live. It was his first boat and I didnt want him to blow it up right away, especially since I held the note for the remaining 2 years. Jeff

thedonz,
We are looking for a full featured cabin with a good amount of storage. Max length 42'.

There is no question Cig is a great boat. We don't like the 42 because cockpit is small for a 42' and Cig cabins are bare bones.

Love Nortech 43' but it exceeds are max length.

Gotcha.... So it's not like the thing would fall apart on 3s or anything it's just a protective measure for the drives. How do the 42's handle in the rough ? They have a pretty nice cabin... Do they hold up pretty good ?

Whats your price range?
Are low hour 500 EFI's ok?
White hull Yellow and Purple Graphics work?

The boat has held up excellent, only 2 minor stress cracks, by the dash, and they were there at about 60 hours and haven't changed. The boat was good in the rough, it did porpoised alot. Comparing it to my 4300 Nortech, is like comparing a Caddilac vs a Chevy. No comparision at all, no creeks, groans , rattles and the Nortech is still faster, out accelerates it, handles the waves better, all with the same power, but different drives. My boat had TMP 750efis and #5's. It also has more headroom, much wider cockpit, and more usable space in the cabin, just my take on it, the 4300 is a larger boat than most people think, its 44'6". Jeff,
We had a chance to meet Terry at the Miami show and he took us through the 43 he had there. He was very nice and helpful. We were really impressed with the boat. Lots of room and it is a bigggg 43'. Some day....

RV,
I think we spoke previously, but I have a 2001 42 with 500EFI's. Boat has 225 hrs, a/c, generator, northstar gps, big stereo, and has been lift kept since new. The boat is clean. It has yellow and purple factory paint that looks very good. Boat has been well maintained with oil changed every 20-30 hours and all other items professionally done. Anytime the boat has needed anything it has been done immediately. I do think I want to sell it this spring as we may be moving to another boat. I have my eyes on a couple of different things and would like to make a move. Check with stretchnout or farfrumwerken also as they both know the boat.

Re: Looking for 42 Sonic

Thanks 43thunder. I hate to sell but we had a son in November and the wife wants more of a cruiser style boat. I kinda cringe when I think of it but I can deal for a few years.
Maybe I need a 47sc. Know anyone who has one? I am looking forward to this upcoming season in whatever I have and hope to see you guys again and hang out a little. I spoke to strechnout tonight and am all excited about making some trips this season with some of the usual suspects as well as some new folks.

I am having a real tough time with making a choice. I love the Sonic and really think it would work just fine but she wants something else. Am considering a couple of things but cant seem to find anything that gives us appreciably more room, a quiet seperate space for the baby and his playpen, and still enough speed to keep me from being bored. Any suggestions from anyone on the board would be great.

Re: Looking for 42 Sonic

I can vouch for Rob's 42 and 43 Thunder's comments. The boat is very clean. So, Rob, I think the last time we talked, you said the 'misses' wanted a cruiser type boat because of the little one. I hope she's changed her mind!! if you don't stay with a 'go-fast', what are you going to do with the lift??

robclark 03-14-2005 09:00 PM

Re: Looking for 42 Sonic

Hey Norm. Almost boating season again. I am going to either use the lift for the new boat or rent it to someone if I cannot use it with the new boat. All this assumes that there is a new boat. I am still not sure on this yet. Once I find a legit buyer for my boat then we will see. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
