Rub Rail
 

Does anyone know where I can get the rubber insert for the rub rail on a 2001 358. Would like to change mine out to give a cleaner look. I contacted Sonic the other day and the girl took my number but no one has called be back.

Tacco does not supply Sonic with their rub rails so I quess we should rule hem out.

Are you changing it for a different style or because it is dirty??

Changing because some cuts and just starting to look FUNKY.

Drag "N" Ass, I had a 1995 31SS and I was able to repair and refinish the white rub rails on it. You can sand the spots with the gouges to remove any material that has been pushed out and then fill the low spots with 3M 5200. After the 5200 has fully cured you can sand to blend. I used a DA sander to go over filled spots and other spots with light gouges you can just sand and blend. After you have everything fairly well matching you can go over the entire rail with either acetone, laquer thinner. or polyurethane reducer to clean and blend. The solvents clean and sort of melt to help remove sanding marks. If you still have any dirty areas left just sand them and go over them again with solvent. My Starboard side rail was the wost from years of docking on that side so I sanded most all of that side. Also, if the rub material has shrunk leaving a gap at the stern just fill this with the 5200.

Try some acetone and clean rag. It will remove all but the harshest stain and make the rail look like new. Try it, much cheaper and easier than replacing.

Yep, your all right. I think the best way to do it is to just clean the rail and deal with it. Never heard about using 5200 as filler and then sanding, I think I will give it a try. Rail not really all that bad just just had some CRAZY idea that I might want to change insert.

By the way Sonic did call me back about the rail and said they would sell me the insert for $2.00 per foot.

Soft scrub with bleach and a brush works well also. For stuff that it wont take off, I've used 200 sand paper before while washing the boat so the rub rail is a little wet, then sanded the trbl spots, then rinsed. Looked like new :D
