Beware of bad fuel

Even though I try to buy fuel at reputable large volume, branded (BP/Amoco, Texaco, Exxon, etc) stations, I got a bad load of fuel last weekend. It was at the BP at the intersection of I-40 and SR 22 (Lexington, TN exit).
I thought I had a tuning issue (motor was fouling plugs, idling poorly, would die if the throttle was rolled on too quickly, etc) with all the work we've done on it. That wasn't the problem at all. I put 93 octane in at the Texaco at OHB and I-40 (east/Hermitage), and the boat ran flawlessly all day.
I opened today's Tennessean and on the front page is an article titled "Tainted gasoline costs drivers, damages autos", and of course you can add boats to that list.
I've always tried to stay away from dock gas because of quality issues. Looks like buying fuel at branded volume stations is almost as risky. At these f'ing prices, we should AT LEAST expect good quality fuel  ................
Regards,
Steve
