I was wondering the same thing. I ran mine Friday night. Spent the night in the cove behind Mill Creek.

I don't think I will be back in the water before Labor Day.

Apple a day 08-18-2009 04:02 PM

Oh come on is it that bad? There were actually a few hot rods around Cedar Creek sat. not as many as I would like however.

Sending it back to Missouri to move the motors backward. Rigged wrong originally. CG is off. Wish I knew it while Brad still had it up there. Hopefully will only take a couple three weeks.

What is the issue? Transom lift? That seems drastic with no more testing than you have done.

Hows the business?

johnnyboatman 08-18-2009 09:53 PM

jason why would you do that, they ran it several years like that at 140plus i think if it would had needed that then they have already done that, remember just because it works on some hulls it may hurt yours. what seems to be the prob, quit listening to everyone and put it in the water and learn the boat then over the winter if it needs it then move them back, why do you think they need to be moved?

johnnyboatman 08-18-2009 09:55 PM

matt we are just getn by, picken up slowly. those core guys never got with me.

johnnyboatman 08-18-2009 09:56 PM

jason try some new props some 4 your motion, not someone elses and remember its going to get loose to be fast.

We tried some 5 blades that helped but I was in the boat and trust me, they need to be moved.

Why? What is it doing?

johnnyboatman 08-19-2009 08:42 AM

Have You Guys Ever Wrenched On A Boat To Kno The Effects Of Moving The Center Of Grav? Can Tou Tell Thats Where They Originally Should Be, Why Would They Build It Like That, And Now You Need Them Moved Back? not saying you dont know but it ran well before, there are things you can do to props to change the way it handles, i just cant see all that work for nothing.

I am with you. I have been involved with the setup of more than a few boats. This seems drastic after limited testing.

Jason, tell us whats going on. If nothing else, we would like to arm chair engineer this thing with you.

Whats going on is there are multiple 35 motions which have been built with good power and sixes. They all run an 18-22inch shaft. These boats run flat and are very fast. My boat was rigged by someone in Florida who had never rigged one of these boats. My shaft is over 34 inches long. (Don't pull that out of context:eek:) This pushes the weight way too far forward. Boatstarts to climb out of the water but cant hold the bow which falls then it happens all over again probably once a second with lots of magnatude at 100. Larry Goldman has rigged about 50% of the 35 Motions. He has won multiple world championships in the 35 motion. His boats are fast and run flat. When I asked about this boat he instantly said he knew the boat. He said they mounted the motors way too damn far forward. Move them back, 18-22 inch shaft, fast flat boat, done deal.

Ive had no less than Brad Schoenwald in the boat who said set-up was screwed..."let Larry set it up". This aint my 1st rodeo guys. I wasn't aware of the set-up till I ran the boat but instantly knew it wasn't right. They either were planning on putting 2800-3000 HP in this boat or had a "bright idea" or didn't know what they were doing when they placed these motors.

Got ya. What is that going to do to your drive shaft angle?

CcanDo 08-19-2009 06:27 PM

OkieTunnel, I can think of several ways to change the CG besides moving the motors. That is at least twenty- thirty grand if you have it done and done right....What about starting by moving the batteries to the transom and sand bagging the transom with enough wt. to get it flat. The next concern will be getting on plane w/enough X dimension to get the props out where they belong....Do you have a ballast tank?

CcanDo 08-19-2009 07:00 PM

What do the batteries weigh....80# each ? X2= 160 x 6ft= a lever arm of 960# and that's just for openers.

I appreciate all the input. It wont be 30k. Shaft can be cut. Drive line covers cut and refinished. Will have to cut into one of the bulkheads (that is usually cut when rigging in the first place. Tailpipes cut and refinished. Small cut at the back of my scoops and longer fuel lines and possibly throttle cables and shift cables but I think they will still work. Rails will already allow it to come back about 8 inches. There are two on each side of each motor. May have to fabricate longer rear one or may be able to relocate front to rear and be fine. Sea strainer will have to move. I'm not going to bandage my elbow when the knee is broken.

hope you get it worked out okie... lets see the fountain motors johnny?? heres a pic i took before we cleaned them

TxHawk 08-19-2009 09:08 PM

Okie- I look foward to seeing you get it worked out.

At least you have a good hull and know what needs to be done.

I have been in a few that were lost causes. Example, the 34 DCB that porpoised so bad that it unloaded the drives. You could drive through the porpoise in the right conditions. This thing porpoised so bad trying to get over 100 that it would unload and eventually break the drives!!!

Then there this is U l t r a, The only Ultra I have been in would try to make a turn when you got out of the throttle.

It is a shame what all is out there that unknowing buyers will wind up with.

Get that Motion worked out and take me for a ride!

Was that the DCB that kept breaking the tunnel tab off? The 34 is a POS! The 32 is a damn nice boat. 35 Motions are one of the best handling cats made if rigged appropriately. Mine soon will be.

Haha, the 34 that kept breaking the tunnel tab was the replacement that had 6's.

He should have learned the first time! I went to DCB and talked to Dave himself. He was very guarded discussing the 34. I looked at 1 with 1000's, and #6's. Could that have been the second boat? BTW, the 32's he had in the shop were knocked out! The 34 was a bad design but he does know how to build a boat. I toured Eliminator the next day and have to say there fit and finish, although very good, was not as good as DCB.

Motion is headed to Missouri on Tuesday. Hopefully motor move wont take too long. Even though it is hopping, I can say it accelerates like a raped ape!

Sounds like the same boat.

I didnt want to bring up Eliminator in my post but since you did...

I was given a 30 Eliminator with unlimited fuel and the keys to break in a new set of motors. Lets just say I spend 30 minutes in it and told the customer he could break it in!
