works been crazy! and im about to start a new project!!! super excited about it! ready to get my boat finished too...

i heard a maybe for the poker or "fun run"

does anyone have any knowledge on how to have a poker run on texoma?? just curious?

I spoke with Casey Freeman from Legend Marine Group about the "Fun Run" and he said that yes is should happen. It in no way can be called a "poker run" for approval. It will be cash entry and winner take all. We all need to help support this so it brings the big guns to the lake. He also mentioned that Highport was fine with having everyone at the marine. The Fun Run will also be properly insured.

well i was thinking it would be nice to have a run for charity. i would love to see everyone get together to raise money for a good cause and it would seem to make a little more justifiable.

i personally have never won money at a poker run and really could care less if i do or not. but it would be nice to see everyone support a group like the special Olympics and maybe raise money to pay their way to go to the national championships?? i dont know? im just throwing out ideas but you would think as much money as half of us make we could think of a little better way to organize an event and make everyone (even the corp) happy!

besides i would even be willing to share seats on my boat to a few of the people we are helping to give them a new experience.

starting the boating season out in a positive direction sure could change a few peoples ideas about powerboating on texoma

just a thought....

Just an FYI - I've never been to a poker run on Texoma that hasn't benefited some sort of charity. The charity part is what make's it legal, or else its just illegal gambling.

andy tell me what charities benefited from the poker runs YOU have been on?

i attended flash gordons memorial poker run a couple of years ago on lake ouchita. im pretty sure a lot of the money went to a charity?? whoever put that event together was a great organizer. it was probably the best poker run ive seen yet and was extremely safe and everyone had a blast! the arkansas g&f and corp was supportive as well.

im not an attorney but i dont think a charity is what makes them legal????

do we have anyone who has organized an event before to give us some good insight on what is involved

TexomaPowerboater 02-18-2009 04:54 PM

Txspeedfreak here on OSO organized the Flash Gordon Memorial run along with a couple of others. Off the top of my head I can only remember one charitable organization - the Lake Texoma Association. The big labor day run was a winner take all, but the 50/50 raffle went 50% to charity.

Casey knows how these things are run. I have no doubt he will do it up right........and then some.

TxHawk 02-19-2009 04:15 PM

I would really like to see something put together. I read somewhere about a weekend some of the E dock crew were talking about boating on Texoma. Seems like it would be a good idea to invite the Houston Guys and Grand Lake guys into a discussion for a central (Texoma being between the two) get together and Fun Run.

Apple a day 02-20-2009 09:34 AM

I would be up for that. Might even unload the Talon. If it's too rough I'll bring the Fountain.

Spine tingler said he was coming up on labor day weekend. I told him about April 18 but I dont think his boat will be ready. It will be easier to get guys coming if the run is set in stone.

BTW, I don't recall any Charities involved in the Labor Day Runs on Texoma ever.

I would like to see them run entirely different anyway. Viper, if you are considering anything on your own, I will help any way i can. If nothing else we can all meet and take a parade lap around the lake...You can all follow me!:evilb:

Busy COLD day at Texoma today. I had no idea what sort of mess I had. This morning you couldnt tell what brand oil filters were on it, it was so dusty. Fiberglass work with engines installed is a No No in the future. Five hours later and its starting to look like it did. I need to tie up some wires, polish all the aluminum, and a couple other little things, but for the most part, I am ready to RUN!

The front is done. Feels so much more solid. Time for upholstery!

COOL,,,looks nice. Who is going to do the interior ?

TxHawk 02-22-2009 09:32 AM

Im not sure yet. If I can find the guy that did the cockpit I will use him. It may be a couple areas at a time. Starting with headliner, flooring and some carpet. Not exactly swimming in cash. Besides, if its running and warm outside im not going to be real patient with a boat in the shop.

i would love to organize something for charity if i had the time but with everything going on at work lately i think im kinda stretched to the max... matter of fact we have even put a hold on the havasu vacation until we get closer to dates to see where the new project is at that point. it may be the fourth of july before i get on the lake this year?? organizing an event would be a lot of fun tho!

I stoped by Legend today. Here are some dates. No word yet on the details, but this will at least let some interest build on a get together and "parade" laps.

OkieTunnel 02-23-2009 08:56 PM

So it looks like they are going to try to do a Labor day weekend run. Cool. I cant wait to hear some details.

I really hope that this thread is dead because you are all trying to get your ish together.

JohnnyBoat - That Fountain going to be in the water before May?

VV - Is going back to work, but he said as long as we buy the gas we can use the boat... if it floats with all that new hardware

Viper - You still going to work all summer? At least you have work to do!

TexPow - I know your story

If nothing else send me some pix, and you may want to take a couple extra people to buy gas for my boat. Feeding the demons is a full time recreation. Oh yea, and get that hatch smoothed and painted before I get back.

johnnyboatman 03-26-2009 09:07 AM

Well, mine still floats. Saturday afternoon turned out nice. Had a nice ride with VV and TexPow. There were a couple go fasts out. I had not seen the 50 Hustler in a while.
I spent this morning cleaning.
