OK Guys, help me out. I'm on vacation Labor Day week, and was thinking about a trip to Travis. So where would be a good place to launch my boat? Is Lakeway ramp still available? Do you have to stay there to use the ramp? What do you guys suggest?

Thanks, Andy

Andy,
You better call Lakeway to see about their ramp. All the public ramps are out of the water. You might be to late this year.

Highland Lake marina still has ramp open. We checked out today and was good for big boats. They say you must have 4x4 and cost is $20.00 Guy sitting by ramp said some people would spin when trying to pull boat out. Ramp is not concrete, maybe limestone.

Mansfield was open for small boats only.

Lakeway was open to small boats. End of ramp was 24' out and was about 4.5' deep at end. Seems to drop off bigtime at end of concrete.

When we went up lake to milemarker 37, we saw lots of things now out of water. A house,1 Dodge truck, 3 cars or what is left of them, a boat that had sank that was in a accident and sank, but never recovered. The windshield of the boat was ripped off and laying behind boat along with a welder and lots of rusted tools.

I was out on my boat saturday and sunday and monday on Dougs pontoon boat,, we went all over the place, from down by Bar-K all the way to the dam, ate at the pier, partied at Devils Cove(Clay and Simon were both out), picnicked at sometime island. My boat from Rock Marina and
we used Emerald Ramp for his 24ft I/O pontoon boat,
launched and retrived with a 2wd Dodge SUV no problems..
Awesome weekend, Im still freikin tired..

I've been doing my part over the months to summon the rain gods. I've washed my cars and boat by hand on the weekends (designated watering day, of course). I've left tools out in the driveway. I've left the car windows down. Nothing worked. No rain.

So, after months of procrastination -- and without really thinking this as a strategy to attract rain to our extreme drought region -- I finally got started this past Tuesday with the demo and concrete re-pour of my patio at home. Workers show up Tuesday, start tearing up existing concrete, and we schedule the pour for Friday (today).

Then Wednesday it drizzles. Yesterday it pours (2"), rains last night, and we've got decent rain forecast through the weekend.

Doesn't bother me a bit that I've got a giant mud, sand and gravel pond at my house, some pretty big drainage issues at this moment -- and that I won't have new concrete for a week or so.

JUST KEEP RAINING!!
