Title/Register in Texas
 

Ok, I just bought a boat from a guy in Oklahoma. I have the title from OK. What is the process and costs involved in getting this switched over. Is there a "smart" way to do this? Would it be worth registering this in AZ if I have an address there? Thanks.

I can't really tell from reading the site. There's something on there about taxes being paid on the original purchase of the boat? If that's the case it will cost in excess of $2,500 to register my used boat!

Pick whichever state the lower taxation percent is in. I still had an Iowa license when i bought mine and IA is 1.25 pct less. I believe TX is 6.25, give or take. 1.25 saved me quite a bit when i registered mine. Also, anytime you buy one, its just like a car, tax,title,license. IA tagged boat thru 2011 in TX:coolcowboy:

You will pay taxes to your county commisioner just like your annual house tax or used car at 6.25%. You take them a bill of sell with prevoius owners signature and title if purchased out right and no loans. They will give you the correct form to fill out and get it reg. You will need a paper rubbing of the haul #s, eng # and some other #'s I think - this is for Texas Wildlife. You will reg it would Parks and wildlife and pay a seporate fee for your TX #'s. Trailer will also go through county commissoner if in TX.

If you run on Texas lakes alot and boat is high profile you may be getting a warning from the law. Boats with out of state # will be stopped and questioned when tthey do their safety inspection. Had one friend that was told the next time she saw him on the late he had better have TX numbers on the boat. He had made it about a year before the was stopped.

I had the same thing happen to me when I bought my last DCB from Havasu. You have 30 working days to get the boat registered with TPWD, after that you will start to accrue fines. (small percentage but still a fine) Bring a notarized bill of sale with Sig. of last owner, they should give you the forms but you will need form PWD 143 and PWD 504 for pencil tracing. There is a tax worksheet included and you will have to pay the 6.25%. BTW if there are outboards you will have to title those individually as well. Word of advice... they REALLY like the trailer to be listed separately in the BOS. Also if there is no trailer weight on the existing title they will make you get it weighed and inspected. (they meaning your County tax assessor)If it is under 4000 GVWR it does not get titled. Good Luck.

While I was still living in Fla I left/used my boat on Travis for two years and never got stopped for having FL numbers.
When I finally moved here I did register it here, was pretty painless except for driving to timbuktoo to do it.

I hope to be out on lake sunday if I am not totally fuked from saturday/halloween night..

Reminds me that I need to get my boat registered in TX.
Has MO CF numbers now (I have property at LOTO).
Just got my property tax notice on this boat.

How are costs calculated for basic registration switch to TX for an existing boat currently registered in another state? In MO, I pay annual property tax on the value of the boat and trailer.
