are the public ramps at Lake Travis. Never been, but would like to try it sometime with the help of a regular Lake Travis boater. I heard Manesfield dam ramp can have a heck of a wait on weekends, true?

There is only one ramp open right now on Travis, that is the Mansfield state park ramp (by the dam). 12 dollar the larger boats will want to use towards the left side of the ramp. If you look closely at the ramp, you can see the "longer portion" of the ramp. It is a steep ramp, but it is grooved concrete so a 2WD should have no problem (mine had no issues with the Nordic).

I will more than likely be at Belton Lake as usual for the holiday. We are hoping to get out camping, but doubt I will find somewhere with sites open this late in the game.

Are there any areas of the lake I need to avoid it will be my first time at Travis.

Lake is far down enough you can see most the trouble spots,
if you stay near the middle and follow the channel markers you
should not have any problems, most people that do is because they try cutting around corners
instead of staying in the middle. Its still way over 100ft deep in the channel.

Not really, it is a really deep lake so you don't have to worry about many sudden stops if you are in the middle. If you want to take a long cruise further up the lake, then yes, there are some obstacles. But starting at the dam and several miles up, there aren't many shallow spots. Starting to see some hazard buoys show up on the sides of the lake, but again, if you are in the middle you're good.

We'll probably be taking a couple of skis and some dirt bikes or 4 wheelers and going down to Sargent.
Riding dirt bikes on the beach and at the dunes near the slue down towards Cedar Lakes and then blasting Caney Creek on jet skis up towards Wharton in the afternoon is always a blast.
Depending on how hot it is we may go fishing in East Matagorda Bay or out in the Gulf or just nurse the crab traps on the dock and drink some beer and play horseshoes.
Galveston had a bout with red tide last weekend due to the high water temps but I haven't heard how it was down there.
