What Is This All About?
1 Attachment(s)
My wife and I were enjoying 70º weather in Kemah yesterday and came across this informational sign. It looks like the Texas Outlaw Challenge and some not so happy tax payers. :party-smiley-004:

And I am most certain big events like these brings a lot more than 10K in sales and services in the immediate area as well.

The pic on the left.....at $2500 each, really isn't a bad deal :D
And, I seriously doubt whoever put up that sign really understands the positive economic impact this event has on their area. |

I sent this to bob, have not had the chance to talk with him.
|
I figured he already knew about this!
|
I guess its official. The dates are June 19th - 22nd. http://texasoutlawchallenge.com/
Looked at my work schedule and I have off. Oh hellz-yeah! ! ! Told the wife to be ready...we're goin. It would be cool to meet some you on OSO. This will be our first poker run. I'm already excited. Brady |
What are you runnin in you baja? It would be cool to find a group of us that don't have 40' boats and 2,000 hp to run this with.
|
I'm all stock. Still have the original twin 454's MCM. Slow but steady. Cruise at 45mph all day and top out around 62. It's slow enough to keep me out of trouble.
I'll run with you. This will be our first poker run so we don't know what to expect. Just hoping for a good time. |

Nothing wrong with us small and slow guys sticking together. :evilb: |
Although we are 40' we run with the slow group...:coolcowboy:
|
hey I might be up for this as well ill bring the 27 fever and run in the slow group lol
|
Right now I'm planning on doing the "Outlaw". Bringing my 27' Formula, we all should run together. Everyone thinking of doing the large run in the Bay, or just Clear Lake run? Any body have Nav with charts?
|
This will be my first poker run also I would like to run with you guys as well. I only got a 22' scarab but it run up in the high 60s
|
what hotels or lodging is everyone staying at while down there?
|
Honestly the best two stops on the run for Saturday are on the bay, Harborwalk and Topwater Grill, We hit those places on any given Saturday or Sunday as the food is better. The ones on Clear Lake aren't much of a Challenge other than the crowd of boats around them trying to get in. I too run with the slow group as my old sled is nowhere near what the big boys have so why even try to keep anywhere even close to them.
|
I'm looking forward to the Topwater Grill stop. I hoping for some good fresh sea food.
I'll be purchasing an electronic chart of the area for my chart plotter. I'll be looking to make a run to CL & Galveston Bay prior to the TOC. Just to get a better idea of the area before the run. Probably in April or early June. I've been looking at beach homes for rent in the Seabrook area that have docks to tie up the boat at night and keep my truck and trailer in the drive way. Just to keep from launching and loading every evening. Haven't committed anywhere yet. I'm still narrowing down to a committed crew that want to ride along. |
We are renting a house and a slip at the marina in Kemah. Worked out awesome last year.

Jeff, You can hit all of the stops in your boat. You would be bored if you just stayed in the lake. |
Yea you will be fine and you really want to have the experience.
|
Yea you'll be good and the run to Galveston isn't bad at all, and fun I'm along with the slow group and live closes but stay in clear lake for that weekend last year I stayed at the new hotel on 146 and red-bluff (comfort suits) really nice and if you tell them your there for the OLC you get a discount!

Trying to find somewhere to stay on the water that has a slip just don't wana launch or relaunch everyday.
|
I have NAV/Charts that I have from last years run. Also there are others from the area that we run with and have had no problems in the past.
|
keep talking and posting ,,, this could be a blast,,,, although my boat is HUGE in MY driveway
|
You will be fine. I ran out there in my 25 all the time. Just watch out for crab pots and stay away from random white PVC pipes sticking out of the water. Usually marking a reef of some sort.
|
I've reserved an 'offsite' 2 bdr condo through Kemah Boardwalk Inn. It's not on the water but should work out. It's about 6 blocks from the boardwalk.
I called the Kemah Boardwalk Marina and they quoted me a slip at $1.50 per boat foot. That's uncovered but has shore power, fresh water and behind a security access gate. We're planning to arrive Thursday afternoon and tow home Sat night. |

The location has changed this year for all the Texas Outlaw Challenge events. All events will be held in Kemah, on or near the boardwalk area. They will not be doing anything at Endeavour in Seabrook this year. From what I've heard, parts of the Kemah Boardwalk streets will be closed off for a big street party like on Duvall St. in Key West or LOTO. I think this is a good move on the part of the event coordinator.
