Texas - Canyon Lake 2015
New year brings the boating season at Canyon Lake at 11.10 feet low.
Been out twice so far, running the new motor, Autometer gauges and dodging rain drops, so far so good!! Will be be out again the weekend of 17 April. Who has splashed so far this year or going to splash sometime soon? |
Hey Jeff, I've had mine out once this year, a few weeks back. Enjoyed back half of a rain predicted afternoon. My plans have changed, so looks like I will be back up on the 17th too, weather permitting, will plan to "get her wet".....PS, thanks for the ride last weekend. Enjoyed the Formula.....
|
Had ours out beginning of March I think it was....super windy and cool but sunny, enough to blow the cobwebs from the pipes. Haven't been back down since though with the way the weather has been, work and now the boat is in Kemah getting worked on for Tickfaw. Hoping the lake gets some good rains for the late Spring/early Summer boating.

Hope the lake got some good rains the past few weeks. I've been driving for a long time and in all sorts of weather but have never experienced the amount of rain we had here in Dallas/Frisco last night on my way home from work. Raining so hard driving up 75 that the wind was blowing the water sideways off my windshield faster than the wipers could keep up...running 25 mph and couldn't see past the hood of the truck, crazy! Last time we were at Canyon the lake was pretty low...low enough that you could almost see the end of the ramp past the end of the trailer if you look close there at Canyon Lake Marina.

Lake is now only 10 1/4 low. Almost a foot with all the rain lately!!!
I will be back out weekend of 2 May. Have to pick up vinyl in Austin, then install, but should be out burning fuel late afternoon. |

We be "Mo than full" now for sure! We were there Saturday afternoon as it started to rain, backed the boat in the water...in the rain because it was supposed to clear up they said. Had the boat in the slip at Canyon Lake Marina, lake was about 4' low, lots of debris though but very boatable, just didn't get out because of the rain. Think it was about 8-9:00 when the first heavy storm came in....winds had to be ripping 60-70 MPH, boats coming over the docks, blowing tables and anything not nailed down in the water. calmed down for a while... Think the second wave came in between 3-4 AM. I went to bed and could see the rock line, woke up and literally saw trees. Said..."something doesn't look right". At that point we found out that the marina was basically an island...had to use a jet ski to get my wife to the truck to back the trailer in to get the boat out, manditory evacuations. These pix show Sunday morning before it got really bad....the last overhead shot is looking from 306 towards Canyon Lake Marina....entire area is a large island....it will be a while before all the debris and everything is cleaned and back to normal...but we have water! And so does Travis which is a great thing too. Hate all the devistation but the positive is we have water. We also drove home Monday to Dallas with all the tornados and hail etc. 8 hours to get from New Braunfels to Dallas.....insane.

Update from Corp Eng:
|
Hey guys, I am new to Canyon Lake and have been on a few times before the rains hit and closed everything. Now that the lake is finally coming down does anyone know when more boat ramps will be opening? It seems crazy to me that only 1 ramp is even open. Getting the itch to splash the Formula as I could only take her out a few times last year before we moved here. Tried last weekend but the line to the ramp was horrible. Think I got maybe half mile from the ramp and stuck in boat trailer hell!! I turned around since I didn't see the point in waiting that long just to get in at dark and pull it right back out. Thanks and hope to see some of you guys out there soon!

Hello and welcome! I boat exclusively at Canyon Lake. For ramp open/closure info, google search Corp of Engineers Canyon Lake Texas, you will get to the site and navigate into the ramps section. Has a chart of all the ramps, who operates them, and lo/hi water closure levels. As for long lines, I have seen what you are talking about, and wife wont sit it in. That is at ramp 6 near my place. Which one ramp open are you talking about? 6? Yes, hope to see you out there! |
Headed to Canyon for the 4th. Who will be out and about?
Latest info link: http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/canyon/ |
Welcome! We won't be back till the weekend of the 18th...gotta work July 4th....yeah.
|
I just saw a couple of you were out this weekend. I made it out Friday and Saturday afternoon. Great days out and nothing broke!! Just heard the Corps received a variance to keep the lake at 910 for the rest of the year! That should make for great water conditions for boating. I hope to be out sometime this weekend since I live in New Braunfels. Let me know if anyone is planning to go out always enjoy tying up to OSO guys!

Well, here we go folks, those yahoos at the controls have allowed the lake to drop below pool. Last night the lake officially fell below 909, when just 9 weeks ago we were 18' over! That is just an absolute travesty. My buddy who lives in San Antonio ended up buying on LBJ for this very reason. No matter how had mother nature tries, she is no match for the ignorance in management of the lake. Today's outflow is greater than the inflow, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where that will take the lake level to. As a property owner on Canyon (along with many others), it easy to get the blood pressure up watching such actions which are completely and legally out of our control.....
|
Well the Labor Day Holiday is fast approaching!!! Anyone going to be out at Canyon Lake this weekend?
I will be there Fri thru Tues!!! Boat already in wet slip awaiting our arrival!! Travel Trailer also set up and waiting!! |
count me in! Boat is waiting on me....Sucks I have to work for the weekend....
|
Was good hanging out with you last weekend Jeff. 97 Formula looking and sounding good!
Sad news is, our lake is on the decline at the hands of those yahoos who cant manage the gift from Mother Nature, rain. Letting out over 18' of excess water in 90 days, and now dealing with a low lake that is only getting lower, is too madening to think about..... |

Looking at the release rate vs inflow. They are releasing almost three times faster than the inflow!!!!
Thanks for the pic, never had one with the bimini up. |
