Winterizing

About when do you guys winterize here in North Texas?

I usually try to get one more run in November, and winterize after that. Mine is in my insulated shop so most of the time I'm not that worried until we get one of those weeks where it hardly get above freezing.

The only thing that sucks worse than winterizing, is winterizing when it's cold as hell outside. I've done so with snow on the ground, and THAT sucks. As such, I always played things safe.

AGREED!!! I winterized mine 2 weeks ago. Was bouncing back and forth if I should do it. It was a nice day and said what the heck. Weather has been lousy since. Feels good it is done.

There are a few dire warning temp rules that will tell you the roulette game is up.... 23F degrees for 5 hours/ -5C for 5 hours is definitely capable of splitting everything water cooled ( block, manifolds, coolers, circ pumps, cool fuel).

Non-tox is cheap enough is you have one of those "I just gotta go one more time" moments.... my preference is to winterize when the weather is good versus fighting a clock as everything is freezing up around you

When the season started to wind down, I would usually do the head, water pump, sinks, transom shower, etc. etc. ahead of time. Since I had 496HOs in my last boat, I had the option to drain that option to drain the water out of the block, which made stretching for that one last Indian Summer day. We took the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off of work once, and rode the Potomac all the way up into downtown Washington DC; which was an awesome seeing the colors for one final blast.

Here at LOTO, the crews are running all over the lake doing the Winterizing. I do my own every year, usually around the 15th, but did it last Thursday to get it out of the way. Heard this from an old guy once, "it is a lot cheaper to go rent a boat for the day, than replace a cracked block because you waited too long to Winterize" And, doing it while it is sleeting, snowing or freezing, really sucks!

Also got a tritoon with a Suzuki on the back, makes up for those days when you got to get out on the water.
