Silver Glenn

Anybody heading to the Glenn this weekend?

kimmer 05-20-2008 10:49 AM

Headed to disappearing Island Sunday

JAXOUTLAW 05-20-2008 06:16 PM

Where is that? just south of Dunns Creek?

kimmer 05-20-2008 07:35 PM

Ponce Inlet - it gets crowded, I have seen as many as 100 boats there on a good weekend

JetJock 05-21-2008 08:18 AM

Can you be more specific where this is? I hear about it all the time, sounds like fun....

Silver Glenn seems shallow the last ime I was there, several boats had clogged up there water intakes...:{

If you are coming in from Ponce...it is dead ahead. Well ok maybe a little to the north. Can't miss all the boats..just head towards daytona area from Ponce and look to the west.
I am thinking about going to the glenn but I am not sure I want to deal with the crowd or trying to find a spot for the truck and trailer in Astor.

You can put in at Halifax Marina and head south on the ICW - follow the signs that say "Inlet" and you will know when you come up on it, it will be off to your right side. According to the latest tide schedule we should have an island by 10am.

jagcoff007 05-21-2008 12:18 PM

We will be at the island on Sunday as well. This weekend it will be crawling with boats, Halifax is going to be packed!!!!

Boostable 05-21-2008 08:57 PM

We won't be out this weekend, all work and no play. I got lots of peps going to both locations and JC is right, the island will be packed this weekend... Have fun!! Sip a few for me!!

cuda 05-22-2008 08:35 AM

Last time I was at Dissapearing Island, I lost count of the boats that had anchored on high tide, and were sitting litteraly high and dry when the tide went out.

I had to come into Halifax on a holiday weekend with my surface drive boat, with only one engine running, and of course that was the engine the powersteering ran off of that wasn't running. It's not like it steered real easily with both engines running a low speed, and it was an adventure navigating Halifax with practically no steering. I made it to the dock withot taking out one of those big yachts anchored there, but when I got near the docks, I had to cut off a guy that was waiting to pull out, because there was no way I could stay in a holding position. I hollered at him that I had no steering, then appologised to him when he pulled out. He was very understanding.

I'll be stuck at Fishstock all weekend. Probably the first Mem weekend since i was a kid that I didn't get on the water. I may try to get out a little Monday depending what time I end up going home.

That's a bit far for me in such a short notice. I can get to the Glenn in about 45 mins. by water.

JetJock 08-29-2008 09:07 AM

Anyone know what the condition of the St. Johns and Silver Glenn is gonna be like this weekend?

Might be able to do a Silver Glenn run Sunday.

JAXOUTLAW 08-29-2008 09:22 AM

There is going to be a big group of us from the Jacksonville Performance Boat Club at Bayard Point Sandbar around 11:30 for a Raft-off. Bayard Point is Just south of Shands Bridge (s.r. 16) on the Green Cove Springs side of the river.

ZBODaytona 08-29-2008 10:05 AM

anything south of lake george will be no wake and i think most of the ramps are closed in that area as well at least in lake county...from the offical press release i got.

If you are coming from the south there is a sandbar before you get to Gators. Bayard is north of Gators 20+ miles.

27Fountain 08-29-2008 02:39 PM

Randy
Bayard is 25 miles north of the restaurant (Gators) we had lunch at. I will not be there Sun. a lot of boats will be there from the Jax Performance Boat Club. A great bunch of guys.
If you don't want to burn the fuel you could trailer up to Black creek good ramp oo 17
Barry

27Fountain 08-29-2008 02:44 PM

They are also having a fun run Sept. 20 $50.00 for non members or you can join the club I think it's only $100.00 for the year. That's non member fee is per boat.

From the lake county web page.
http://www.lakecountyfl.gov/media/ne...se.aspx?id=772
Not sure what ramps these are...but note the no wake. Thats a long idle to the lake from 40 and especailly from 44 I would put in N of the lake if you want to run up there

ASTOR — Effective Friday, Aug. 29, Lake County is temporarily closing two public boat ramps on Butler and Pearl streets in the unincorporated community of Astor.

The boat ramp closures at 55400 Butler St. and 25140 E. Pearl St. will help to reduce boat traffic in the area, which could cause further property damage to nearby residences that are suffering from flooding of the St. Johns River. In addition to the boat ramp closures, authorities have enacted a no-wake zone along the St. Johns River from Lake George to State Road 44.

To enforce the boat-ramp closures and no-wake zone, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is increasing its marine patrol of the St. Johns River from two units to four. Two paramedics from the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division, will be accompanying the Sheriff’s Office marine units to help respond to any calls for medical emergencies. In addition, the Lake County Parks & Trails Division will assign a park ranger to the area to assist with enforcement.
