Is S Florida boating better on the east coast or the west coast.

Interesting thread. I was searching for info on Panama City Beach and this came up.
So why aren't there more performance boats around the PCB area?
We're thinking of trailering ours down because we recently got hooked by mistake.
The water was so nice and calm, 80deg weather in April and not all that terrible of a drive. Figured if the weather kicked up there're enough backwaters to keep a guy happy too.

I thought about it...and even though I am admittedly prejudiced...I have to say East Coast. I ran into a boater from Naples not long ago that made the comment..."But it's always so rough over there all the time...".
Really?

I've spent a lot of time in the PB area at that inlet, as well as Jupiter inlet. It's pretty humbling many times to see large fishing boats 40' to 60' rocking and rolling in the inlets. Given the right tide, the real fun comes when you see the smaller boats heading in or out. Makes a thirty footer look pretty small.

Jupiter is narrow and scary...but nothing like Boynton and Boca.
He let that boat get into a pitch and it caught him off guard...once he was thrown off the bridge it was over....hit his head on the hull before he went in.
Tidal flow and wind....one is consistently predictable...the other is not. To me the worst scenario is a strong easterly against an outgoing tide. This occurs most often in the winter with winds out of the NE. As a cold front approaches in the winter we get a strong SW wind that the mainland blocks. Seas can be 1' or less up to 2~3 miles out for a few days before...but once the front passes and the winds shift to NE...look out...stay home. May though October are the best months with January and February being a close second...depending on the fronts.

You can't really go wrong boating in Florida period!!!! I prefer the west coast but have enjoyed both. Some areas of the west coast are very shallow and rocky you don't appear to be considering that area. I love west central/Tampa Bay area.
