The two most popular choices you have are going to be Lake Lanier just north of Atlanta of which I would guess is a 150 mile drive. If you want crystal clear salt water head south to Destin which is roughly 200 miles. I spent some time years ago living near Savannah, I guess it's ok, and not really too much further then Destin so you can certainly explore it all, but if you're going to do salt water try Destin first.

Well if you were boating with the 252, Harding lake is local to Columbus. There are several other inland lakes not far from there like, Sinclair, Jackson and Oconnee which are all easy with a boat like that. West Point lake is near Columbus but is shallow and mostly used by bass fishers.
If you are boating with a 400SS then bigger water is near at Eufalla AL, before going further distances like north to Lanier or south to FLA.
