Best boating in FL?
I am shopping for a new house in Florida. I am looking in the Keys now but am open. I am looking for a place that will have good rental income but also will have great boating. We will use a few times a year but will become our permanent home in the future. Don't want anything to crazy for traffic but would want something to do at night. Thanks for any input.

Thanks Eddie!
Call or email anytime. I can give advice on all of Florida but my area of expertise stretches from West Palm to the Keys. Greg 954 732 9020 www.gregsellsfl.com gcoffshore at aol dot com |
Really depends on who ya talk too. Boating is generally good up and down both coasts. I'm a west coaster and love it. I'm in lee county which leaves Sarasota and Tampa to the north and keys south. Also across the river is east coast. All areas have their pluses and minuses. West coast generall lower housing prices especially for waterfront. I would highly advise visiting some areas you're interested in to get a feel for it.

Honestly, I thought boating in Florida from Deerfield Beach down to the Keys among all the all great spots was awesome...
...UNTIL I 'discovered' boating on the West Coast of Florida on the last (Active) Thunder Run where a bunch of us get together for a long weekend in late winter and run around for a few days. We REALLY enjoyed boating around Ft. Myers and Cape Coral. When we pull the rip cord and head south, we'll be on the West Coast of FL. |
Thanks for the input. I am heading down again in March. Hard to tell from land. Might have to rent a boat when down there...

Always visit during the high season so you see things at their worse. I love the off season when the crowds go away but if you visit then you get a skewed view of how the area actually is.

We keep our boat in the Naples / Marco Island area in the winter. This is the first year of having the boat down there and so far we like the West side. We are a short ride from the Ft Myers & Cape Coral spots and the nice water Naples offers.

South Miami is great for boating. A short distance from the Bahamas and the keys. Biscayne bay is great for places to anchor, sand bars to party on in the island chain heading south. The problem is waterfront property is so very expensive. If you don't want waterfront there are plenty of ramps. You can be in the Bahamas in less then an hour (45 miles) or keys in half that time depending where your going. I got island fever in the keys as when I needed things even a movie I had to go to Miami. I am a biker and all you had was one road to go up and down, north and south, overseas highway- us1, boring.
