How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

Just picked up my new boat she's a 98 30 with 03 300x's. Starts to porpose at approx 60mph and continues to do so until the 80mph mark. Nothing outta control just annoying ? I know a tunnel tab but any other way to cure ?

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

My 30 with Bravos did the same thing.
Just don't spend much tine running between 60-80. :D
It what I did. :drink:

Throttle up........Adjust trim........These boats have 2 speeds fast and idle..

You will not stop it. Like Speed2lead said, boat was made to run fast.

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

took her out today for a few hours. seems like in a 1 ft or better chop, once ya hit 60, a little trim and 80% of it goes away. annoying in flat water but then again i havent been using the trim at all til today. was a test and tune day and plenty more ahead. Thanks to all for the input. Robert was good to see ya and thanks for the compliments.

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

On a flat day you need to be doing 80 and up to get rid of it!

Sean H 05-01-2005 10:28 PM

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

they don't like flat water, you need a little chop to run fast anyway, otherwise it just wants to stick to the water.... i rarely notice the porpoise because it usually matches the chop at LOTO and i just accelerate threw that speed range.... and mine really only will do it around 65-75, but the sterndrives might not be as sensitive as the O/B's would be....

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

I have the big tab on my 05 30' and use it to 80-85. I don't run the boat on flat water much, mostly ocean running. I ran Havasu last weekend and used the tab till 85 on the flat water. Just a little tab goes a long way at 70-80, then I lift it flat past 80-85. I only used it getting to 85 but I ran the boat at 90-100 all day long never dropping below 90, only when the IMCO ******* tried to take my bow off at 90, guess he didn't like the idea of a 30' with wackers getting ready to pass his ass.

I don't have the factory style one, but i have ridden behind one and it works okay for the front seats but does nothing for the back... i am having one glassed in that wraps around, a little involved, but it should pay off when running 100... :D

I have the factory installed deflector on my 30' and love it. We can run 100 and my wifes visor stays on her head. The back seat sucks from what I have been told, but from where I sit it is great.

Have to compliment Jay P. on his 30' Spectre that he is building. I was finally out for a blast in one with a new proud owner(berns29scarab) and boy was I impressed with how the boat ran and handled. Myself and others who rode along with Bern that day all agreed on how phenomenal of a boat that Jay and staff of Spectre Powerboats has been building for quite some time.

CONGRATULATIONS to Bern and also to SPECTRE for building such a quality boat and a special THANK YOU to Rolfe and Francine of Pro Roc Marine in Bricktown, NJ for taking great care of my buddy Bern with his purchase.

i'm hoping to get mine out in the Ocean this Sunday for a real test. The Barnegat bay on weekends is usually a solid 2ft white capped chop and after running in that yesterday i'm looking forwards to a little Ocean Running....DPT thanks for the comps...always an open seat

Bern -- I bought the 97 from pa that I think you were looking at. If so, you missed a great deal on a great boat. 91 mph yesterday (gps) with 5 people and full of fuel on very flat water and not trimmed very well. :evilb:

i wouldn't say 25 MPH window.... but how much is that diff worth to you in $$$... i would love to have a skater, but wouldn't pay twice as much to do it....

skaters layups are not my fav...due to epoxy lay up. the 28 in my opinion isnt as good of a riding boat as the 30 either. have been in both a few times

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

I would own a 40 or 36 Skater, anything under that size I wouldn't. I would own a Spectre. When Jay finishes the 42' then I would probably only own Spectres. I love my 30'. The difference is just size. The 28' Skater is much smaller but faster, hell a lot of them run 115 plus plus, but the room, dash layout on a 30' and over all size can't be beat. The 30' Spectre with outboards is the best 100mph value on the water, In my opinion. Great boat and great service from the factory. Jay does a hell of a job.

I have a 28, it hops from 55 to 70, more like 15mph hop. When I dont have any weight in the boat the hop seems to calm down more.

Cant beat the 30 and especially when you factor in the $cost. Wind deflector is a must Berns! Worth every penny.

Are you the second owner of that boat or is it the same one that has been for sale for a while now? Nice looking 30'.

These boats should come from the factory with a tunnel tab. Once you run one you would not be without it

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

who makes that tab? that looks pretty good...

Re: How to stop a 30 w/ OB's from porposing ?

That is a tab I made using Dana Marine hinges and cylinders. I still have enough parts to put another one together
