32 Spectre/ Seat Time

Anybody on these boards have any seat time on the 32cs with I/O's? Looking at 625 Ilmor V-10's with boxes, I had a 30 with 300x's and didnt care for the porpoising and lack of interior room. I know the 32 has a larger cockpit but how about fit/finish, handling, etc????

I have a 30 with 500's and love it. I have been wondering about the 32 with 625 Ilmor's as well. Has one been built yet?

I saw one in April at the factory. Looked like an incredible boat.

i don't know if these are 550's or 625's... but they are in a 32

It was 2nd hand news to me but I heard that the boat runs 128mph with the 625. Here are the pics that they sent me. You can tell the 625 from the 550 by the carbon fiber pannels & air filter box. The 625 is the only one with the ccarbon fiber.

after looking at this picture.. the swim looks like it takes the 2' .. how much bottom is in the water? is it the same length as the 30' with some re tooling? or is a true 32' bottom with a swim step?
hhhmmm

LMAO.. I have been thinking about it for sure.. but its not time for me yet.. I have a few other things to iron out... I have to decide which boat I'll keep first..
the right thing to do it probably to sell my fast one.. and keep the little one..
but.. Im having a hard time with that.. so for now.. Im not getting anywhere near driving it.. Or I might just oder it and then I'll be in trouble..lol

I'm new to the offshore thing & was wondering what the difference between a spectre & a skater are. I was interested in a 28 skater w/ OBs, but the spectre seem very nice & a lil less money. Can someone please enlighten me.

Sean H 07-15-2005 09:44 AM

Re: 32 Spectre/ Seat Time

skater will be lighter and faster with same power.....
spectre will have a little better ride in the rougher stuff do to the size/weight....

nothing beats a 28 skater in smooth water, but it will cost ya more...

there is a thread somewhere that compares spectre/skater/amt... check that out...

That was the biggest differnce I could tell was price. Just now sold my Allison drag & Malibu ski boat. I'm starting to look more seriously now. I really wish someone would hurry up & build the perfect boat. Thanx for the help.

Spectre will build you the perfect boat, just tell Jay what you want. I had Jay and the team at Spectre built a 30' this year after doing a lot of home work. I looked at the 30' Spectre and the 28' Skater really hard. I looked at a lot of other boats those were the two that it came down to.
What seperated the two for me was size and style. Sure price plays a role in boat building as well but the difference wasn't enought to sway me one way or the other. I like the speed numbers of the 28 Skater, hell who wouldn't. Stock power 115 mph all day long. I know there are some that are running 120 plus plus but on average the 28 runs 112-115mph. Those words came from Peter himself. But for 10 mph the Spectre fit my needs better, The interior space is a little bigger and the Spectre will run in the rough stuff better. I built my boat for the ocean with one or two river trips a year in mind. It isn't often that I can even run my boat at 100 in the ocean, the water is just to big out here. But I have run 80 plus in 3-5 swells with a light wind chop. Yes the boat was flying but it handled it very well. I have run my boat in flat water as well, not as fun but you can run a 100 plus for as long as your wallet will let you. The 30' likes a small swell and a little wind chop, with those conditions you can run 90-100 all day.
The other fact was style. I liked the look, hull layout and over all size of the Spectre a little better. I recieved one of the first 2005 30's with the new style interior. When Jay showed me the prototype seats and layout I couldn't believe it, I had to have one. I love the look of the new interior and the way the colors are tied into the rest of the boat as well as the seat backs. I have never been a big fan of the 28' Skater dash, just my personel taste. I don't like the "box" that sticks out in front of the driver where the steering colum is. It really boils down to speed and style on the two boats. i love my 30' and wouldn't replace it with anything other then another 30' Spectre with outboards or a new 32' Spectre. Spectre builds a great boat at a hell of a value for your dollar, couple that with fantastic customer service and you can't go wrong.

Keep us posted on what you get.

This post in no way shape or form is to slander the 28' Skater, we all know Skater builds a great boat. I am only stating my opinion of why I bought a 30' Spectre.

Are you interested in selling ? Finally got a close up look at a spectre & I was very impressed. The only part I did not like was the fact there was not a sunpad on the back of the boat.

I dont know of any east coast performance Cats that have a sunpad on the back.. I think you could probably have one made.. but I dont think I have ever seen one.. but the OB boats have the room for sure.. There is way more room on the front of the boat for that..

I think I may or may not have seen a girl or two on the back of Andy's 30 :D

Flew out to Tampa this past Mon. to test out the 32, All I can say is that it is everything and more than I expected, It gets on plane instantlly, doesnt porpoise at any speed, turns inward after about 55 or 60 mph and you can hold a conversation @ 100mph. There will be a new 32CS with 625 Ilmor's at Lake Havasu next season :D :D :D

Did you demo a boat with the Ilmors? What was the top speed?

Bottomfeeder 08-04-2005 07:28 PM

Re: 32 Spectre/ Seat Time

500EFI's the 2nd Ilmor boat is currently being built, top speed with the 500's was 107 mph,100 degrees temp., 90% humidity, 3 pass. 220 lbs each ,100 gal gas. Not bad in my book!!!

Re: 32 Spectre/ Seat Time

For the money you cannot get a better built, well designed, and faster boat for the size with the same horsepower. Jay has been building boats for a long time and has a lot of experience. He will build you exactly what you want, he will be honest about your needs, and being in business for more than 25 years says alot about who he is. Mercury Racing would not have supported him for the past 8 years if he wasn't a outstanding person. I know because I am a current Spectre owner, and I wached what he has done for more than 25 years.

Just had to sell mine to someone up there in Joysey.........Not a happy camper, the boat was awesome and drove like a Ferrari on water. I would by another in a heart beat if the insurance and now the gas would come back to normal. Dont see that happing soon..I will always cherish those times I had her. She was a SWEET RIDE and always delivered
Im lost with out it..People ask are you gonna buy another type of boat? NO, I wont be happy unless Im skipping across the water at 90-95. Jay was always right there for me to troubleshoot or just Hi-speed questions. Would not hesitate to buy another Spectre..
