This is funny reading about these boats. Several of them I had the pleasure of rigging.
I do know for a fact that zipp express ran 115 mph with a pair of stock 500 efi's. shawn, how far above the bottom of the boat are the prop shafts? |
Obrien, Randy Swears re rigged the boat before I bought. I do not know how the dimension from the prop to the bottom, but the top of the transom assembly is right against the rub rail. I do know he spoke with Neil Wobbe to get dimensions.

If I remember correctly the drive centers on zipp were 64". They were supposed to be 65" but the guy who cut the transom holes messed up and they ended up tighter.
After the bottome of zipp was blueprinted the front of the bullet on the drives measure 1.5" above the bottom. Hopefully that will help you a bit with your setup. It sounds like your drive are probably to high if the top of the transom assembly is against the rub rail. This might explain why you are having such a hard time getting the boat on plane, as well as the low top speed. You might take a look at the maximus props as well. hope this helps |
Obrien, thanks for this info, I know the transom was glassed up and new holes cut for the drives that are closer together, but I never measured the distance. I do not have a problem getting on plane with the Hydromotive P5s, but I have never seen over 110. I bet the bluprinted bottom adds a few MPH. What difference would the Maximus props offer over the Hydromotive's?
I appreciate your help. Shawn |
I really can't say how well the maximus props will run since I was no longer working for spectre when those props came out. I will see what I can find out for you.
