30 Spectre
Looking at selling my Scarab and upgrading to a 30 Spectre with outboards. Can anyone give me some pro or cons with this boat? Seen any good deals out there?
|
Great boat for the money. Great in big water for it's size and with most high performance outboards they do over 100. Some cons are insurance is sometimes more for cats and it's not as fast as a skater. Some may have a mid range hop but that happens with most all true tunnels.
|
Great boat!
|
How about the tanks? Are they like a Skater where they have to be redone for todays gas? Thanks for the info.
|
No. Tanks are fine. Way different animal than your Scarab.

Fun boat, easy to use by myself. cheep on fuel and fast.

AWESOME boat, runs good in the chop, well built, fast, great performer, beautiful lines that dont get old, reasonable in price. The only con is that theyre hard to come by.

Yes they are, it runs good. I have been 94 in it but I'm still getting the hang of it. lol
|
That's pretty good. On paper they seem like great engines and being able to run on regular fuel is a huge plus. I've heard that simon marine can tweak the ECU's a little and get them to make almost 300hp.

Scarab is sold, now I need to find a good deal on one with 2 300's.
|
Good luck with the hunt, they are really nice boats, my buddy Caleb has a nice one here in WA, I've been in it, it does 108mph with 300x 's. here is a link of it doing a cool flyby.

NAVISPEED, I am going out Sunday so I will get some pics.
Eric, Here is a video a friend took from my Scarab when we did the Texas Outlaw Challenge. You guys need to make a trip to Texas for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dt6O...ature=youtu.be |
Hey! That's my boat! LOL
Now you have to take me out when I am in Houston, which is alot.:evilb: |
Sure thing, I just bought some new props for it so hopefully I can get some bigger numbers out of it. I worked on it last week trying to get the set up just right and the goal is to get it close to 100 if possible. Sure has been a fun boat so far.
|
|
Yeah. Those were 32s, but they've had so much metal removed, they weren't pushing all the water they were supposed to. I liked them, though bc they were easier on the gear cases.
Where do you boat? |
Yeah, props did not even measure 14" diameter so they had a very high slip ratio. Also, the motors were 2.5" above the bottom so that was a little much. Now we dropped the motors down and I bought 15X32 cleavers for it. The props showed up yesterday and hopefully get to test it out this weekend. So far the boat has been a blast and enjoying it very much. I still cant get over how much gas it does not use, very impressed on how cheap it is to operate. We boat down in Clear Lake or the San Jacinto river.
|
With those props, tuck the motors all the way in getting on plane. They are going to cavitate and that really hammers on the props and in turn the prop shaft. The increased surface area is going to be harder on the shafts and tucking them in should help. I always did it anyway just to be safe.
And the fuel efficiency can't be beat on a 30 foot 95+mph boat that gets its best efficiency around 75 mph. lol |

I'm curious to see how they work with 250's, I'm looking for a set of 32's, so if they don't work out for you let me know. |
I bought the props from Jaco's Marine and they were cheaper than BBlades. I paid $779 each with shipping and no tax. I will be taking it out Friday after Thanksgiving so I will let you know how they run. Hopefully it will bring the RPM's off the limiter and pick up some MPH.
