New Spectre 30 owner here
Just purchased my first Spectre 30 and will be following this board for what is going on with the brand and what you folks are doing to upgrade and modify your boats. She’ll be at LOTO and will be dropped off sometime next week. When she gets here I’ll post some pics ASAP. Bought her here on OSO, the Red one. Bob has made this purchase my best experience to this day!! I won’t ask a bunch questions but will try to follow and learn from everyone and if anyone has any magazine reviews or articles from back in the day please post as I’m a sucker for brand history. I’ll thank everyone in advance and looking forward for your posts and updates here!!! |
There's an unwritten rule about new boat purchases....... We need pics! Congrats on the purchase, You'll need to get your post count up to 10 posts before you can post pics. I'm a bit worried 'cos it's taken 3 years for you to make your first post, I hope we don't have to wait 30 years for some pics. :) - Just having fun. Spectres are beautiful boats and very much liked here, hope you enjoy her and OSO. Cheers, RR. |
I’m not a person that posts a lot . Just throwing it out there and thanks for the reply. I usually do more reading and research. This is my last boat as I’ll retire in 3 years. Always loved the lines of the 30 and can’t wait to get her on the water!! |
I was wondering when that red 30 would sell. Looked like a very nice boat. Enjoy!
I had mine at LOTO last fall and, schedule permitting, hope to make it down for the Shootout this year. |
Thanks for the reply Plum Crazy!! I’ve been admiring your boat and that thing is so clean. Like I said I’m here but don’t post a lot but I can see that changing. I’m still looking at her getting here next week and I will definitely be posting some pics. Not sure of how many Spectres are here at LOTO but I’ve seen a few. Well if ya make the Shoot Out be safe and looking forward to seeing more pics of your boat!!!!! |
Pictures! Or it didn't happen:ernaehrung004:

Finally got it here and tried to post pics but can’t seem to size them correctly. I’ll give it another sodoon. |

Thanks for the help as I didn’t realize that. |
Bought the boat and very next day my wife was hospitalized and I spent 3 weeks staying in her room and trying to get the boat shipped here. Had a shipper accept the bid only to stall for a week with claims of drivers were late because of other deliveries and offered to take my boat from the storage facility it was at to her personal lot until her other drivers got caught up which would’ve been 3-5 days so I canceled and relisted my ad and now all is well. |
Still looking for any past reviews of the 30. I’ve beat the internet up and can’t find a thing. Any articles from Hot Boat or any publication from back in the day? Production numbers? Race history? |

For my 30 Spectre, which I found in Long Island, I used Frank Mole Transport. He only lived a couple of miles away and he provided an excellent experience. He's in Florida all the time. |
Yeah it wasn’t a good experience but another gentleman and his son came thru. My wife was hospitalized the day I bought it and had a friend help me coordinate the shipping. I was living in a hospital for 3 weeks and doing this from the 1st floor lobby was an ordeal. But she’s here and many thanks to Bob Lawrence (owner) and Chris Bingham for their help and patience. God bless them both. |
Good luck with the new toy.
Hope your wife is dong better. |

Thanks SR 24 Dave & Plum Crazy for your replies and yes much better but it’s gonna be a long haul before she’s better. I’m looking forward to actually getting her out. I’ll try to keep y’all updated but it’s back to work in a few days. |
DH,
Glad to hear your wife is doing better Dean |
Thank you Dean that means a lot. And still trying to post a pic but unable to. Got em saved but still can’t add them to my posts |
Hope you're out boating with your wife very soon. There's a couple of ways to post pics. I'm using an iPad and I reckon the easiest way is to hit the little picture icon next to the smiley.then follow the prompts. If you're still having trouble, I'm happy to post some for you. If this is it, she looks awesome! What power? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d740bba96b.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c4af6351a2.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...36c8a697ec.jpg |

N/A 500s and 565 hp each. |
I’m using my IPhone and I’m not good at posting so your help was needed and appreciated |
The ad is still up on Powerboat Listings and has a bunch of pics...

Yeah I called that gentleman first and he was also very helpful. He’s had trouble deleting that ad but gave me the info he had on the boat and he said his family wanted a bigger boat is why they sold it. They bought a 32 Skater. |
Congrats on the spectre purchase. That is one of the boats I helped build when I worked for jay. If you have any questions just ask |

Been able to get it out much? |
Not really but will be spending a couple days after the shootout and I’ll be sure and post some pics. She just got out of the hospital and recovery is going good. Been a long road but all is okay. Have to definitely get rid of the black as it’s hot as f$&k so thinking all red or a red and silver combo. Open to any and all suggestions folks!! |
Glad to hear your wife is doing better.
The contrast of the black and red looks great. You could replace the seating surface with black Alcantara which doesn't get hot, maybe with some red stitching. I think red in the middle would look good, too. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...425713685a.jpg |
Plum Crazy thank you for your reply! It’s been tough. Now about that interior you sent pics of. That’s gorgeous man. Never gave the black an red a thought but after seeing it I really like it! Any other ideas please send em sir👍👍 |
Man sorry for not checking back sooner lol. Your boat would be one of the first boats I actually helped build. I have no idea how many boats were built each year. Starting in 98-99 the majority of boats built were the 36’. As far as race boats go, all the 30’ race boats were outboards. Some were open cockpit and a few canopy boats. The most notable race boat is a 36 that was originally run as zipp express. The boat changed names to 2nd amendment in 2013 I believe. What props and lowers are on your boat? a couple years ago I helped a member on here with his 98 30 i/o. It had imco -1 lowered and whipple 500 efi’s. When we started the boat ran 104. After some setup changes on the lowers and a set of herring props he is now seeing 125. There is a lot of potential in that hull once you get the drives higher. They were too deep originally |
