3k in high theft, hurricane FL through Progressive. Was $1900 per year in 04 and going up $500 a year ever since. I have heard as low as 600-700 in the midwest with 5 month layups.

And the HO boat will be 8 MPH faster, not worth 6K a year to me!

To you maybe, But to 95% of the guys on here 8 MPH faster is as important as 8 inches longer for the girls :D :D

Fundamentally this difference could never be justified through actual experience. I would love to see the actuarial data to support this difference. I think they are telling you they do not want to insure the HOs. I'd go elsewhere if I had HOs.

Re: 32 Owners

Living in FL adds a whole new multiplier to the insurance scam:

For me a new 07 288 MCOB with 496 HO (70+ mph) is 1300 yr with Progressive

My 04 32 MCOB (73 MPH) is $2700 but they won't write a new 32 since their new cutoff at Progressive is 30 ft or 100K.

Geico (Sea Safe) quoted me today on the 04 32 MCOB $4500 yr with NO WINDSTORM COVERAGE (Hurricances), a 5% deductible and a 12% deductible for theft. I laughed at the lady and sent my renewal check in to Progressive :D

$646.00 a year through State Farm, I'm sure it helps that I also have Three vehicles, House and property with them.

Yep. I also have bank accounts, mutual funds and credit cards, as well as all cars, both houses, Umbrella policy etc.

All that helps when you want to get your boat covered.

megstoytoo 12-01-2006 01:45 PM

Re: 32 Owners

All the other pieces like other vehicles, homes and umbrella do help. The problem was in fact with the umbrella. I needed a minimum of $500k of liability to meet the umbrella minimum. There was plenty of insurance out there to cover replacement of the boat, etc. Issue was on finding $500k of liability coverage. Everyone was quoting only a $100K. Other boat is 20 ft. 55mph. Making the switch to 32 ft. 80 mph with 496 HO was problem.

Mentalpause 12-01-2006 03:20 PM

Re: 32 Owners

Mine required 500K liability, they would not write any less. I could go more if I wanted to.

That will always happen. There are credit ratings that apply and lots of other determinations. Some may think it is not fair, but reality is the actuary tables don't lie, there is a relationship between behaviors in an auto or bad credit and propensity for loss on other items. So that all comes into play these days as the insurance companies become much more sophisticated in what they consider.

Very well stated!! It's all about the "risk factor"

Progressive via Worldwide insurance. Don't bother trying to call Progressive up direct. Go thru Worldwide.

Avoid any "Yacht" type policies. You will pay far more for stuff you don't need. Stick with recreational boat types. BTW you don't know the top speed. All you know is it's got these motors and it's this long... ;)

John I agree 100% but they are also considering the zip codes as well. If you live in a high risk area (hurricanes, theft, etc) then you will be charged for it!

There are hundreds of determinate rating factors these days. Hurricanes is a big one!

32 SS vs MCOB SS

Hi Guys,
Looking for a little input. Looking at upgrading from my 26 Powerquest to a 32 SS sunsation. The question is I'm not sure if I want a SS or MCOB. Any suggestions.

Ca$hed Out 02-09-2007 09:36 PM

It really depends on you boating habits. I can confidently say that no matter which model you choose, you will not be disappointed......

I just ordered a new SS closed - ETA end of March!

Definitely call Bob Luellen at WWM. He has a very good relationship with Progressive's marine underwriting department.

Gizmo, sent you a PM.

Got kids? Boat inland? Don't overnight very much if at all? Nothing wrong with a mid-cabin. Negatives would be more vinyl/hardware exposed to the elements needing care-taking, and prone to deterioration. Passengers can't really ride up front on a choppy day, it would chip their teeth creating a scramble aft (I still remember my small bow-rider days). I think the boat ia tad heavier due to the extra glass insert etc. though I'm not 100% sure.

Those would be the main "negatives" I guess in my book when considering the MCOB version.

mrssun 02-17-2007 04:59 AM

MCOB is my favorite boat. We have 2 children who love riding up front but have realized the adults end up fighting over who gets to sit up there also. We always boat with a lot of people and the MCOB is great for that.

I had a blast riding up front when Joe was driving. But obviously he did not like riding up front when I was driving!:evilb:
