Replacing a starter on twin 496 setup...
If ever you find the need to do so to avoid pulling the motor, just let me know. I just went thru it and I have some lessons learned that will cut your time in half if you're a first-timer.
Why did I have to do it? The starter bendix (or solenoid) stopped engaging the flywheel (starter spun but not the motor). When I pulled it, the bendix/solenoid gear wheel area was pretty cruddy with rust. Probably could've shot some PB blaster etc. in the area and it would've worked, but probably not for long. Anyway, it's back together and purring like a kitten. |
