Anyone know this boat?

Anybody happen to recongnize this boat out of Le Claire, Iowa and can give me some insite? It's a 2002 288 with a 496HO. Any independent info would be great, good/bad etc. Is the owner a member on here?

Call the factory and they will give you all the info they have, all they need is the hull id.

Thanks, was thinking that myself. Emailed the owner yesterday for the HIN, waiting for response.

I believe it has 500-600 hrs. That is all I know

All I know about it is that it's now sitting in my shop :)

Sydwayz 07-10-2011 11:45 PM

I am pretty sure it was originally built/owned by Rick Elkins, aka Reckless32. He is in the Virginia Beach area. Great boat. He liked the paint so much, he had his 32 painted almost identical. If it's the boat I'm thinking of, it was well taken care of by Rick.

Why is he asking $29k? Isn't that about $10k light?

If that is correct that is a STEAL unless it was totally trashed!

Wasted Income 07-11-2011 08:19 AM

Nope, it's not trashed...it's actually pretty mint. The PO told me the boat was originally named Reckless, and came from a Navy guy in VA, so that matches up with what Sydwayz said. It's in VERY good shape for a 600 hour boat.

Congrats! Incredible deal IMO :ernaehrung004:

No reason in the world why you shouldn't easily see another 600 hrs out of that engine. The 288 itself is ageless and stout!

I'm super excited. Had it out this weekend...it ran flawlessly.

Where do you normally boat at? River or Clinton? Congrats.

Congratulations, you got a great deal on a great boat.

Usually the river, but might start heading to Clinton a little more.

I can thank bdubs for turning me on to Sunsations via his awesome 288. I wasn't going to be in the market for a different boat until next year, but when you find a deal this good on a boat of this caliber, you gotta move on it.

105mph_38_2003 07-12-2011 02:05 AM

Have the 288 hulls changed much since 2002? I saw a 2005 and 2011 that look like they have more freeboard.

No additional freeboard but the 2005 and newer 288's have a true, full step in them. The older hulls just had a ventilated chine that gave the appearance of a step.

I'll look for you if you ever make it over to Clinton. I slip my boat there on Dock 3 so we are there every weekend unless I pull to run the river.

Been out of town for the last couple of days just now catching up on this post. Congrats! I knew it wouldn't last long but I couldn't move on it that fast. If you get tired of it let me know.:lolhit:

dont take this the wrong way but....
Never understood why someone brings attention to a boat that they are intrerested in buying...its like advertising for the seller..

Just saying:drink:

Actually I've often wondered the same thing in the past and debated about asking about it for that reason (bringing attention to it) but it was so far away from me I had to try to get some independent info on it with out me seeing it in person. That's why I posed in the owners section and not in general section, and also why I didn't say I was looking to buy it or where it was advertized like some do when they ask about a boat. I know that most people on here are pretty quick to realize that if someone asked about a boat it usually means there looking to buy but felt like I had to take a chance. Also didn't have money in hand, if I had I would have flown or drove out to see it and if it's as nice as the new owner says went ahead and picked it up. That's my reasoning anyway.........

Thanks man, luckily for me, it was only a 1.5 hour drive from me to go look it over in person and take it for a ride.

Also, I didn't find out about it from this thread...found it while surfing boat trader, but I did get a chuckle when i saw this thread.
