Port Side 496 Mag HO Starter Change
2005 Sunsation Dominator twin engine. The starter is between the engines. Can it be done without pulling the engine? what marina in Michigan has the time to get to it ASAP?

If you know your way around a 496 you could pull the exhaust riser and get to it with enough room.
You have to "know" the engine as the wire to the solenoid is a little tough... The bolts to the starter arent too bad. I've done it before - it can be done. Taking the manifold off takes longer than swapping out the starter. The good part is its the manifold without all the oil filter mounts so its pretty easy. |
Remove the engine hatch or suspend it vertically so you can lay across the top of the motors. You might be able to get to with just pulling the risers, not the whole exhaust manifolds.

new starter does the same thing. have water in the heads dripping out the exhaust with manifold removed and attempting to turn it over. turns over slowly now. am going out to remove spark plugs and see what I get.
