My boat has the Mag's not the HO and I have had it to 78 on GPS, my buddies best with the HO's has been 83. My friend's 01 now has around 600 hard hours on it and he can just barley hit 80. The one I water tested, with the 6.2, was in light chop but full of fuel and three grown men in the boat. We could only get it to 67 on GPS. Maybe someone else with the 6.2's can confirm this number.

So you are saying upgrading the 6.2s will equate to using more gas than a stock 496??
If I remember right...we are expecting 65 gph fuel burn when mine are finished. I think that's still less than big blocks. As for top speed, I've seen between high 60s to a max of 72 depending on conditions. I've driven a twin 496 HO Dominator and it is faster with more mid-range but for me...I'd go 6.2s again. The only time I want more is at poker runs. |
if anyone has a good deal on an 01 to 03 32 dom with big blocks keep me posted please

What price range are you in?

Looking for a Sunsation 32 MCOB preferably with 6.2s. I'm as meticulous as they come so no junk offers. Can anybody advise from experience a top speed with 6.2s?
Buy the boat and enjoy it, forget mods.......the motors aren't that strong for them internally. Only thing with that boat was on poker runs, running WFO you would be at the pace that other boats were cruising at. |

IMO if you are changing your mind back and forth on going with 496s vs 6.2s, go with the 496s. You will be glad you did the first time you firewall the throttles and can get to 80. Plus if gas is actually a concern, that is best remedied by cruising at 40mph than any other way.

Heres the story on upgrading the 6.2s. You will need a new cam for sure, new intake absolutely, porting of heads, exhaust, dyno fee and then tuning fee. Then a bunch of odds and ends. There is no picking and choosing, you have to do it all if you want it to be worth your time.

Bob Lloyd at Full Throttle Marine. I'm having a lot of different custom things done. Without breaking it down, I would expect around 15k plus, parts and labor installed.
