288 water tank ..easy way to drain?
I've had a new to me 288 MCOB for a little over a week now and love it. I have a question on the fresh water tank and the easiest way to drain it. Previous owner had the pink anti freeze in the tank and I just want to get it out and get water in the tank.
While I'm asking ..do you all put the pink stuff in yours each year or take a compressor and blow out the lines so their is no water anywhere? |
Just run it out the faucet and transom shower if you have one. Then flush it with fresh water once or twice the same way before the final fill. I've always run pink in fresh water tanks for winterizing. Problem with blowing them out with air only is there is likely low spots here and there in your lines, and if small amounts of water collect in those spots and freezes you may end up with split lines.

Thanks MP. I have the sprayer it just seems to take a long while to empty that way. I was concerned with running down the battery.
Mine does not have a battery charger onboard. Do any of the sunnys come with a battery charger onboard or is that an add on we have to add ourselves? I added one to my Baja and it worked out great. |
It is an option on the Sunnys, but evidently not put on yours. You probably have 2 batteries, that water pump won't run them down. If it does you need new batteries.

Yep, just pump it out with one the faucet or sprayer. It should only take a couple minutes.
I buy a water cleanser (granules) made for RVs at Wal*Mart and add it to the fresh water on a couple tank flushes when I am cleaning out my system. |
Me too. The water freshener helps keep the water from getting that stale smell.

Thanks again guys!!!!!

Also, if you are going to use the faucet to drain it, don't walk away from it.
When the pump gets to the last of the tank, it will gurgle, blow some air bubbles through the line, and it splatter out of the sink and make a mess. The faucet in my boat is a fixed unit, so I slide 3' long piece of 1" inside diameter of clear tubing over the end of it, and extend the other end into a 5 gallon bucket. This works perfect and keeps the inside of the boat from getting splatter pink antifreeze painted. |
I used the spray on the back to drain and rinse the tank. Was not near as bad as I anticipated.
What size is the water tank anyway, 25 gallons? |
