Dave,, Have you set a date for the 2003 Rally yet?? and where?? I would like as much time as I could get, to arrange my Year!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

DaveSunsation 11-16-2002 06:01 AM

Mitch,

Should fall around the 4th weekend in July, can't give exacts until after application/request with the park is approved - it always is, but nothing's set in stone until after we get the application back.

Hope this helps.

I've got a few pictures from ths last year posted here: 2002 Sunsation Owners Rally

...sorry for the pop-up ads, you get what you pay for (free site).

Also, the new Sunsation brochure has an entire page in the back with picture from the 2002 Rally. Ironically, the two photos of people holding beer's in their hands, are both Bayley's. :D

DaveSunsation 11-19-2002 08:20 AM

Ok Folks, the Dates are set for Rally 2003:

Friday Registration July 18th
Saturday July 19th - Rally Day
Sunday July 20th - Bay Rafting Party

Mark Your Calendars - It'll be the biggest, baddest most exciting one yet. With even bigger, better & more prizes and awards than last year - be sure you dont miss out.

Bayley 11-19-2002 10:13 AM

Wow, that was quick Dave!

Jeff,
Going to have to props labbed at the very least. If I pick up two MPH on top end, I will be happy. That would consistently put me into the 90's. Also thinking about freeing up the exhaust. I am starting to think that the silent choice and baffled tips are robbing a few hp. I'm also sick of farting around with the silent choice system every season in order to get them to work. Not sure if I will go to an external muffler or just rubber external flappers. I’ve got some really great ideas on how to do this cheap (super cheap… i.e. $20 at Auto Zone), but I’m slightly concerned on the appearance factor. I’ve got five solid months to figure this out, so hopefully I will have something that looks pretty decent.

Don’t know if I’ve said this or not, but I got my Rally posters a few months back and I ordered up the one photo of you (Jeff), Dragon Heart, and the New York blown HP500EFI boat and myself milling outside of the North Channel. It came out pretty sweet. It’s a pretty good shot of the 28 you got.

A FEW QUESTIONS

the actual run--how long will it be and where do you plan on running to? on friday are able to just come in to metro and register there or do you have to have a prior registration? what are the cost for the weekend, passengers and boat owners? what saftey items are required besides pfds? the raft party on sunday is located in which bay, muscamout?

just a few questions if any one can help me id appreciate it

thanks ken

Great Questions ,, Ken

ccarloss 11-20-2002 06:17 AM

Thanks for the dates Dave, I can't wait for this years Rally. It will be my first.

DaveSunsation 11-20-2002 07:27 AM

We will be sending pre-registration forms out probably early June or so but you still need to show up Friday for dock assignment, goody bags and what not. The run has yet to be determined as far as route, actual run will be around 80 miles. The route will start at Metro and proably run east to Algonac or something, then back across the lake to Mac Rays for lunch then up to Detroit somewhere before heading back to the park. Details will follow in a mailer, so if you're a new Sunsation owner, be sure you're registered with us as an owner with address, phone #'s, etc.

Sunday's party will be better organized than last year and will be out in muscamout with prizes being offered out in the bay.

We will have magazine coverage again, dont know when the articles from last year will run, but they will.

Helicopter coverage will be there again as well and the slide show for ordering running before/during dinner.

On a bummer note - the park no longer allows PA systems, DJ's, Bands, etc......guess some folks across the canel in the park we're complaining, we'll figure something out.

One thing is for sure - it's gonna be one whale of a get-together.

Hope you all can make it.

Centsless 11-20-2002 02:59 PM

I "informed" my hubby of the dates last night and inked (not penciled) it in on the calendar!! We will be rally virgins!!! Maybe someone can sell him a 32' while we are there??? :D

DaveSunsation 11-21-2002 08:23 AM

Centsless,

We'll also have all the models either running or on display and I'm sure we could find someone to set your husband up for a demo in a new 32. We're looking forward to seeing you at your 1st rally. Be sure you're registered with us, if you're not sure, give Lorrie a call here at the plant with address, phones, hull number, etc.

Dave, have you thought about raising the price a couple of bucks and have the helicopter run both legs? I think a few of us were disappointed in not getting helicoper shots and I would rather see you raise the cost 20 bucks and have the photographer shoot us old boats. Getting photos of 65+ boats in an hour and a half isn't too likely. Just a thought.

For the party, can't we use the indoor facility up front by the beach?

DaveSunsation 11-22-2002 07:30 AM

I will be up in the chopper for next year, I did not fly last year like I always do and thats where the problem came. When I fly the pilot has little chioce but to listen to me and that was the problem last year with the photogrpher and pilot. I will get every boat next year, rest assured. The other problem was due to 9/11, where the lunch stop is at Mac Rays, is a no fly zone area for Selfridge and made things a little diffucult. Keep the faith guys, we'll get em all.

Dave....Sandy said to make sure you have the CORRECT film in the camera!! ;) ;) We should be there for the rally, but I'm moving to LOTO in March/early April so time will tell....P.S. the 3 girls can ride with us again if they want....and we'll even STOP for Lorrie again. ;) :D

tmager 11-29-2002 10:36 AM

dominating S/32, Dave, last year was my first rally and it was one of the best weekends I had all year. It will definitely be worth your trip out here to Michigan. Sunsation puts a lot of work into the rally and it shows. Dave, Wayne, and Joe really put on a nice party.

Kanookstr 12-02-2002 04:46 PM

Where exactly is this going to take place?? I know those names might sound familiar to the local guys, but I'm from Massachusetts?? What would be the location to type at "Map quest"?
thanks.
Also Dave, how do you register as a new Sunsation owner? Are you automaticly registerd if you purchased new from a dealer?

KN 12-02-2002 09:49 PM

Kanookstr the rally is at Metro Beach in Harrison Township. It's around 30 miles north of Detroit? I may make the trip out from Maine next year. It's about a 14-16 hour trip for me. There are a couple of ways to go, one is across Pennsylvania, the other up into Canada and across. I don't know how customs would be.

Kirk

DaveSunsation 12-03-2002 10:07 AM

Kanookstr,

You might want to check with Lorrie here at the plant, the dealer is responsible to send in the boat sale/registration paper work, but dont always get around to it. Lorrie can be reached here at the plant at 810-794-4888

Kanookster,
The Rally is held at "Metro Beach" in Harrison Township. "Metro" is about 3/4 the way up the Western Shore of Lake St. Clair (it the piece of land on the south end of Anchor Bay) . It serves as a nice central location for most of the places to go on the Lake. A good place to get information about the area is the Lake St. Clair Net. They've got quite a few charts and basic information on the Lake. Also, almost the entire U.S. side of Lake St. Clair is considered part of the Metropolitan Detroit Area, so accommodations are everywhere.

I looked it up on Map quest, It's about 600 Miles for me. the quickest way seems to be thru canada. I was wondering if going by water would be reasonable. After all, thats why were going right. To go boating...lol. What if we launch somewhere near Buffalo??? then shoot across:p Or is that to big of water??? It looks to be around 250 miles??? It must get pretty rough out there sometimes huh?
Looks like launching in Cleavland might be only about 100 mile trip.
Just some Ideas I'm throwing at you guys...I can spend 24 hrs driving the boat. It's driving a car/truck for 9 hrs I hate doing:D :D

BTW, This is what map quest showed me when I typed in Harrison Township MI. Harrison Township Map

Kanookstr 12-03-2002 03:29 PM

Thanks Dave, I'll check with Lorrie Latr today.;)

tmager 12-03-2002 04:27 PM

knookstr, Metro Beach is the green patch at the end of Metropolitan Parkway, I live right off Metro Parkway right by the park. Traveling by water from Cleveland could get pretty hairy in a 28, but pretty doable. Water can get pretty nasty between Cleveland and the mouth of the Detroit River. Its 50 miles from the mouth of the river to Metro and a pretty easy ride. From experience, running hard for 80 miles on Saturday, Sunday would be a pretty exhausting day from Metro to Cleveland, Personally, I wouldn't do it. Your best bet is to go through Canada, better ride with less traffic.

KN 12-04-2002 09:29 AM

Canada Jeff what do you need for paper work? I'm assuming just registrations.

Dave F 12-05-2002 06:56 PM

Ok. Excuse my ignorance but since I'm gonna be new to the Sunsation family come Feb, I need to know a couple of things. Maybe you guys that have been there, done that can straighten me out:

I have no idea and I am totally clueless as to what a Sunsation rally is, what we'll do or what to expect. Except that we register Fri, take a ride on Sat and raft up on Sun.
I realize all the in depth details are still being worked out on where to register, where the run will take place etc, etc.

What I need to know is a general idea, an overveiw of the weekend.
Things like, Is this a true boating weekend? You know, where everyone stays out on their boat? By the "accomodations are everywhere" statement I'm thinking it's not.
So, if we stay in a hotel room, where are our boats? Please don't tell me, "on the trailer in the hotel parking lot" because that aint happenin'!
Anyway, more details please.

DAVE

Kanookstr 12-05-2002 07:09 PM

Dave F, the previous page has this post from "DaveSunsation"
Part of the registration is Dock space I believe..:D

Dave F 12-06-2002 02:41 PM

Well, it just so happens that Joe called me today to ask me a couple of questions about my boat. (It's getting ready to go in the mold!!!)
Anyway, while I had him on the phone I asked him all the questions I need and he explained the answers just fine.

One thing I did forget to ask, he said registration is gonna be around $200. I'm assuming per boat, not per person????

Thanks guys
DAVE

tmager 12-06-2002 03:14 PM

Last year the price included two people and any additional passengers was something like $75 a pop. Foods great, prizes in raffle are great, dockage is excellent, the lake is really nice, great hospitality. Not a real costly weekend for what you get. Is it a boating weekend? After running all day Saturday, Sunday my wife and I went for a short ride and went home and crashed on the couch the rest of the day feeling pretty whipped from Saturday, definitely a boating weekend.

Gizmo 01-02-2003 05:13 PM

Davesunsation,
I am a new sunsation owner (95' 32' dominator) I have some question I'd like to have answered. E-mail me with registration info and I will pick your brain a little.
Thanks
