32' Dominator Speeds?

For those of you who own one, what does the Dominator run with 496's and with 500EFI's?

boatguy 02-07-2003 01:20 PM

80mph on the nose - fresh water(Lake Superior) - 496MagHO's - 28" Bravo 1 props (not Lab'd) And it is for sale if anyone is curious.Great Buy. I want to build another one.

SR-24 02-07-2003 01:36 PM

I'm looking, so I will pm you here in just a second.

Sunsation 32 02-07-2003 07:09 PM

Mine runs a solid 88 on gps with 500hp's and has labbed 30's. Its also for sale. I want a new 38 if they get it built in the next 5 years. My second child is on the way and my wife keeps talking cruiser!!! Yikes. Hope that 38 is really big!! Cant handle a cruiser yet.

SR-24...To help answer your question on top end performance, weather, temperature, humidity, plays a huge part because humidity and m.p.i's do not get along. However on ideal day of 80 degrees 40 percent humidity, twin 496 h.o"s will run 79-82 mph. twin merc 500 e.f.i"s your looking at 85-88 mph. As long theres no prop dings, prop ears are even and lower unit skegs are perfect, and the x dimension leaves the factory with the proper height. Fuel also adds weight. All this effects everything. I hope this helps where you want be. Money you know can go another mile.

Let's face it, you're gonna be hard pressed to find a better performing 32 with twin 496's and still maintain it's crappy water performance...

Reckless32 02-26-2003 09:06 AM

The March 2003 issue of HotBoat magazine has once again given high praise for the Dominator. The boat tested was a 2003 with T496mags (375 ea) and they clocked it at 77 on the radar. They also had overall impressive comments on it's solid construction, outstanding acceleration, and rough water genetics....:)

You can view the article via the Sunsation website as well as the numerous other articles by various magazines that keep inviting them back for more...

boatguy 02-26-2003 04:11 PM

keep im mind that the boat test was in salt water.Mine was always considersd a 82 - 83 MPH boat with 496HO's but in good old Mn. at 600 Ft. above sea level she ran a solid 79. Also to note is Merc. specs are plus or minus 10% from the factory. That is a fact on production motors. So do you have a say 390 HP. HO or do you have a 440 HP HO. You would never know for sure unless Dyno'd.Still the most awesome 32 for the power period.!

Reckless32 02-27-2003 09:05 AM

boatguy exactly! I've posted before about the 10% +/- factor on the motors. Also, there's the few pounds difference in each boat as the layups are never exact either.

Seen a fascinating post some time ago from I forget who, who gave a pretty good explanation of the differences of salt versus fresh water performance. Essentially there could be none. Where you're at, I'd say it's definitely the altitude that trims a click or two off the speedo...That being said, 79 at 600 ft is still great!...

boatguy 02-27-2003 04:37 PM

I believe the issue is really water density which varies from every body of water . Probably minor but I did have a engineer motor head boat freak friend of mine explain it to me once but I believe I was more interested in the cocktail in my hand at that particular time. My new 32 Innovator is going to have its motors sent to Tyler Crockett for messaging before install.600 per side is the goal. This time around I will know for sure what Hp and torque is being produced and at what RPM.It will probably be one of the first with that kinda power.Should be interesting!! Can't wait.Winter is starting to wear on me.

Reckless32 02-28-2003 02:39 PM

Are you getting an Innovator? Have you placed an order yet?...

Low Rider 02-28-2003 06:20 PM

My '94 Dominator (flat bottom) runs 81 with the originial 502's and I guess boating on the James River and Chesapeake Bay I have the chance to boat at sea level on both salt and fresh water on the same trip. I don't see much difference in performance at either end of the river but I very seldom run at wot. The only difference on the Bay end is the beer is sweeter because Reckless 288 is buying! After this winter from Hell are you ready to float the Sunsations Rick?

John

Vyper340 03-01-2003 08:30 AM

Rick - have you ever seen an article and ANY boat mag that doesn't say the boat handles well????

boatguy 03-01-2003 11:06 AM

Yes . Exact production times are not known as wayne is still fine tuning things. But I ran the boat in Miami and it is awesome.I didn't think it would be my style, too poker run oriented, but after being in it,well, it rocks.HOPING FOR MID-MAY.Get some hours on it before Smoke On The Water. What did I here about boating on the Chesapeake and free beer?

Reckless32 03-24-2003 09:19 AM

Vype, exactly!!!....:D.....So when are you jumping ship?.....

DENNYB 03-25-2003 01:50 PM

Boatguy, you go baby,you go!

DENNYB 03-25-2003 08:30 PM

also reckless288, I spoke with boatguy , he is skiing in Vail and asked me to pass along a message to you. He will be back on monday to respond to your reply.

Vyper340 04-01-2003 08:59 AM

Till they make a bigger one it might be a while... I don't jump from ship into a smaller boat. :)

Reckless32 04-01-2003 08:49 PM

Ahhh that's right. You've got the little one now. The family "van" is definitely more well suited for you now....;)

Okay, back to serious performance boat talk...

Vyper340 04-01-2003 10:59 PM

That's Van with a Vroom! As in 80+ family performance machine!

DENNYB 04-02-2003 09:53 AM

Vyper340. Coming from powerquest and baja boat company to sunsation powerboats, we are going forward in the larger segment of performance. Soon we will have a bolster seat for you looking over the sleek long shearlines of a 36 sunsation built especially for you and your performance buddies.

Reckless32 04-04-2003 12:16 AM
