Single 32 Dominator Speeds
I posted this as well in the General Discussion forum.
Simply put, I'm trying to run some numbers of what guys are getting efficiency wise. I need to know: hp gear in drive prop diameter/pitch wot speed wot rpm. Thanks DAVE |
Dave,
I may be able to give you an idea. A good friend of mine just bought a 2003 Single Dominator. Engine: 500 efi Drive: XR 1.50 w/ Merc ITS Prop: Labbed 26 Bravo RPM: 4800 Speed: 74-75 depending on temp and conditions PS - He is looking to whipple charge it. I think there is someone in the NE who has whippled a Single Dominator 500efi with good results. |
Agressor 25,
Thanks very much for the info. One question. Are you sure he's not turning a 28? If he's turning a 26 4800 r's @ 74mph that comes out to like 6% prop slip. WOW! That would be great if it were true. If it is, kool! Thanks again DAVE |
It's an interesting subject, a boat able to perform with single power.
While we're tossing around configurations, what's the consensus on specs for a single Dominator with say a 525 with and without an ITS drive? How would that compare cost wise to a set of twin 496HO's and would it be worth whatever the difference is?... |
I looked into it and the 496HO were cheaper and faster and more reliable-drives included, than a single engine 32' of 600-700HP.
|
cobra, that's what I pretty much thought despite never pricing one that way. Just thought it would be an interesting cheaper alternative than the twin mess/op expense....
|
Cobra,
add up your gas bills and then tell me which is cheaper. :) I bought a blank boat. no engine, drive or steering. I will even have to install 5-6 guages. But hey, that's the way I ordered it. with what I spent for what I'm getting, you wont be able to touch it price wise or speed when I'm done. While I'm at it, I want to say how absolutley incredible Dave and Joe were. Dave especially went the extra mile to help me and work with me. Great people. Even Mitch (Mither T Graphics) was helpful and great to talk to. I did alot, and mean alot of shopping for used boats. On the computer, sometimes hours a day, the Satly Dog and the back of Hot Boat and Power Boat mags, if there were used boats I was lookin at em. Anyway, for what I spent on my 03 Sunsation 32, add the cost of my single motor, extention box, hydro helm (I already had the external cylinders), big race E tops, and even a new drive to handle what I expect from the engine, I was in the same ballpark with what it would cost me to buy a 3-4 yr old boat, with twins, build em the way I wanted them and go from there. Granted it helped I already had the blower and couple of other things, but I still had to buy accessories, like; trim pump, alternator, starter, pwr steering pump, raw water pump etc. Well, that's my take on it. I guess I'll have to see where I end up. DAVE |
Interesting project Dave, when do you think you'll complete the project?...
|
Reckless,
As a matter of fact I'm waiting for the call from Sue at Extreme as I write. I will be going down there TODAY :) to pick up my new machine!!!! I hope to have her finished and running by end of June (my official ETA) but I really hope I can have her done by end of May, first of June. DAVE |
Dave, Extreme Offshore Marine is where I bought mine. Spoke to Sue just the other day to discuss some options. Tell her Rick down in Va. Beach says hey...
Send some before pics whe you get her home... |
