Question for DaveSunsation

The more I look at the 32 Sunsation, the more I like it. One question - my previous boat was a 312 Formula Fastech which weighed approx. 8,000 lbs. The 32 Sunsation is 6500 lbs, yet looks to be similar in size, layout, etc. How is this done with 1500 lbs. savings?

ontheh2o,

Great question, all Sunsation models are 100% balsa cored, 3/4" on the hull, 3/4" on the deck and 1/2" on the hull sides sandwiched between an unmatched laminate schedule. We also incorporate many fiberglass components (Vberth, cabin floor, kick panels, fairing, galley, engine well liners and the entire cockpit floor is actually part of the entire deck mold, all component parts are also balsa cored where applicable. This is a tremendous weight saving method not to mention adding strength and integrity over ply board, plywood and carpeting pieces. As you can see, using very little plywood in our build process is significant and adds great performance. This takes nothing away from Formula or any other manufacturer, many builders produce an excellent product but there are distinct advantages to being a low volume (85 - 95 units per year) custom hand built manufacturer geared towards performance, fit n finish, ride and overall integrity that many consumers overlook.

Keep the questions flying or as mentioned, feel free to call me anytime. Thanks again for exploring Sunsation.

Ric232,

Depends on which boat you're compairing it to, all current Sunsation models have a 96" beam and 24 degree deadrise. The upcoming SS396 and SS366 will have 102" beams.

Several (larger) performance boats are only 8'1"...
