Hook and Turmel win Marathon Grand Prix
The Associated Press MARATHON, Fla. -- Powerboat racers Nigel Hook and Rick Turmel won overall Superboat Vee-class honors Sunday at the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix in the Florida Keys. Piloting Lucas Oil, Hook of San Diego and Turmel of West Palm Beach, Fla., had placed third during Saturday's first of two races. They came in first Sunday after Saturday's leaders had to quit before finishing because of overheated engines. "When everyone else was having a good time last (Saturday) night partying and enjoying Marathon, (the crew) was relentless in the perfection of the boat," Hook said. "They took the (engine cooling) strainers apart, pulling out all the (sea) grass which turned out to be the problem for the other boats." Saturday's winner, Shogren Performance Marine, driven by Steven David of Lighthouse Point, Fla., finished third overall. A sister boat by the same name, piloted by Earl Hall of Washington, N.C., came in second. Miccosukee Indian Gaming, navigated by Miami racer Darren Schwartz, won the Superboat Stock class, while Bill Gazell of Palm City, Fla., drove Great Adventure to a top finish in the Manufacturer Production 4 class. Sanctioned by Super Boat International Productions, the event featured a course incorporating both the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico with race boats navigating under both old and new Seven Mile Bridges in the Florida Keys. Nothing like backing your truck into the viewing area. No need to carry coolers and stuff. :)

Re: Marathon Sunday Article
Wow cool pic under the bridge. I have never been to Marathon to see a race looks awsome though. How wide of a gap are in between those pillars seems like you would have to be CRAZY to drive under that bridge. :drink:
