Randall A. Rabe
RABE, Randall A. "Randy" 66, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday, Nov. 8th, 2007, surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of St. Petersburg, he was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School-Class of 1959. He was a graduate of the University of Florida, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Randy loved the sport of boat racing and won many titles. He was a member of St. Petersburg Yacht Club and a Rotarian. For 40 years he was the loving husband of Linda, and father of daughter Caroline, and son Parker. Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched as nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so very much. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13th, at 1pm at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, NE St. Petersburg Chapel, 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N. Burial will be private for the family. We are athletes-and never let anyone argue. I was asked by John C. to hold this until after sunday's start. John, Reggie, and many others raced with Randy for decades-almost 40 yrs ago. (if I make a mistake don't complain too loud) I will work during the next few days to give you the facts. Randy won titles in Key West including the 1973 title. In 1971 he was the first outboard home in the Miami-Nassau race with four 140 hp Merc engines. Randy built boats w/ six outboards and the 1976 Spirit of America w/ turbines. In a 1978 race the second place overall finisher in the production classes, Black Max, a new 28' Randy Rabe outboard vee with three of the 240 hp Merc long shaft outboards- this boat was an out of the box factory rig that prob cost 1/3 of the boat ahead. If I am reading John Crouse's book right-Florida's Jack Scopetta used 4 230 hp Merc ob's on a 35' RABCO "FOUR RUNNER" to win modified class (1982), despite having to double back to pick up a missed check point. According to the waterski Hall of Fame, Randy was the first person to bearfoot backwards. Randy waterskied from St. Pete to NYC and was a guest on the Ed Sullivan show the first night the Beatles were on (for the World's fair in NYC). Current Pantera race boats and many others are based on his designs and molds. The funeral will be at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home @ 2201 Dr. MLK JR. St., North, St. Pete, FL on Tues 11/13/2007 @ 1:00 p.m.. Please sign the internet guest book at www.andersonmcqueen.com. Jamie
