We were running a strong second place in race #1, gearcase and electrical gremlins began attacking us and continued the rest of the week. Sunday we were running between turns #1 and #2 when some Mercury bolts let loose and the port motor took a sudden 90 degree turn, sending us into an exceptionally violent spin, skid and stop. From inside we were sure we would be swimming out and I would bet we rolled at least once. We still have not seen a video. It's possible we hit something in the water. We have some unusual prop damage we can't account for.
Good news is we are fine. The parts of the boat which were meant to break away did so, and my canopy which took the most impact saved my life. Lee has already started putting the boat back together. The Worlds Fastest (and most distinctive) Super Stock hull will race again. SQ |
Wow. Glad you are both Ok. Boats can always be replaced.

It definitely felt violent and like 360 degrees in some direction. We are both finding new bruises and soreness every day. I can't imagine that kind of crash resulting from anything other than critical equipment failure. Again the good news is we will race again. As usual the DVC hull performed as it was designed to do. Lee is well into the repairs and she will be better than new. SQ |

Steve-
here are a few more to add to your collection. Glad you guys are ok. |
hey steve .i know the dr lee will fix it and be better than ever . can't wait to see you guys agin .i thank you all had a ball in morhead this year .
|
Hey Robbie,
We always have fun in Morehead City. You are right about the Doctor, he is fixing it faster as usual. There is talk of making Morehead one of the really big races. Good thinking. SQ |
|
Hey Pete,
We have had the new one on the drawing board for a year now. The plan was to begin the week after Key West. Obviously our little mishap will put us a bit behind, but Dr Lee has new and old parts in the molds as we speak. If you know of anyone wanting to race, the DVC is a great boat. In the hands of a more aggressive team it will be very hard to beat. We are building something so wicked fast, us older guys can relax in it and still win a flag or two. SQ |

Hey Julie,
No need for secrets when the boat is for sale. Anyone thinking of owning DVC gets a 125 mph SBI APBA UIM OSS OPA World Kilo Record thrown in at no extra charge. See the photo above to learn how. SQ |
Did the wing plate break ? from the pics it looks it...but kinda hard to see
|
I know the angle isnt good, but it does appear that the wing plate broke, If it did, there must have been some serious force subjected to the motor to rip Stainless steel like that!
|
We are still trying to separate cause and effect. We believe the two outside wingplate bolts sheared off first. This lead to the rest of the destruction. We still have two badly bent prop blades and no propeller marks anywhere on the transom. I remember being told that the Helicopters had spotted a motor cover/cowling in the water before our incident. It was a wild ride thats for sure. I'm just sorry there is no video. SQ

Steve,
Are those Barracuda's you where running? Maybe you guys looked like bait and a big one just couldn't resist. That just might explain everything! :D |
Thanks Ken,
I think the wreck riddle has been solved, Barracudas. That Kentucky Wonder Weed really gets you thinking outside the box. SQ |
Barracuda......

The Tease is a cold-blooded............................
Julie, The Outboard guys won't even know you are teasing them. They will think the photo above is a 6 blade Bravo something and not the answer to all their rough water wet dreams. Or is it rough wet water dreams? SQ |
Hey you guys can't be talking about wet dreams with out me in the mix! I can't believe you are letting the magic prop secret out to the competition and the general public WOW!
