Are you and the rest of the T dockers going to make the trip over to this side of the pond???

Saw it on NOAA yesterday. I won't be at the races by boat. I may drive up Sunday. Plans changed. Looks like none of T dock will be there by boat.

Race is canceled first time a SBI race is canceled that I can remember.

Zero Patience 08-05-2012 03:07 PM

Good thing SBI did not sanction the new record from New York to Bermuda.

teamsynergy 08-05-2012 03:19 PM

IMO... run two motos... one saturday and one sunday... if something happens sunday to the lake, take moto 1's results and make it the final. Pretty simple to me. Kinda disappointed but not nearly as some of the teams that traveled a long way to launch and re-load. Good to see everyone again!!!

Is this not Offshore Powerboat Racing, LOL. All joking aside (Safety is the number 1 priority) and we still have some nice pic's to look at by "Darren US1" and "Jeff from Freeze Frame Video".

I was in the water helping find a person missing. The coast guard, police, life guards and about 50 volunteers from the beach. We all went in trying to find somebody that they presumed was missing in the water. They called all of us back in after 45minutes. Hopefully It was a false call. Mthey did rescue a boy but was told there was somebody else in the water. The big lake was rough.

mike4980 08-05-2012 09:10 PM

I was very disappointed that they did not race today, but that water was huge and the search for the missing person was right in the lane at the time when the race was to be going on. I did have a great time and was lucky enough to spend some time with the JD Byrider crew what a great and welcoming bunch. Big thanks to Tony and Mark and the boys!

POWERPLAY J 08-05-2012 09:36 PM

How big was the water?

frontseatdriver 08-05-2012 09:45 PM

the current state of offshore racing is dead!!the big cats has ruined the sport.they should be racing with the hydros on rivers!! they been killing racers since the early 80s in cats. i raced in grand haven in 1989 in 8 to 10s and they ran the whole race a few boats sunk mostly skaters. but thats the chance you take.with cats if the bad water does not get you. speed will as in the case last year at key west with big thunder blowing over coming in to calm water.in the old days the big money teams would bring both a cat and a v- bottom.and never less than 100 boats at a national event.yes the state of offshore has diminished mostly because of the economy.

You are right, I have found that Tony Marcantonio of JD BYRIDER has always been one of the good guys of Offshore Powerboat Racing, friendly to all no matter who you are, everyone is treated the same, a great ambassador of the sport and for JD BYRIDER and a World Offshore Powerboat Racing Champion to boot. I always look forward to saying hello to this class act and his Team. Missed him this year at St. Clair.

StClairRaceFan 08-06-2012 12:20 PM

Come to Port Huron

Hello

Since you all have your boats ready to race and have hauled them this far, why not drive them East to Port Huron, MI and race. Put your differences aside and run them. Another river race so the water should be fine, but it does get a little choppy.

MissGeicoRacing 08-07-2012 03:34 PM

So there is no confusion. The racers were suited up and in their boat ready to be led out on the course when the word came down that they were calling the race.

Two reasons :

1. Safety boats, turn boats, turn buoys were struggling to stay on station and would possibly be ineffective if there was an incident.

2: Three children had been reported missing and feared drowned on the beach adjacent to the course. (Helicopters and adults frantically searching for children). We had no business racing on a course where their could be a struggling child, parent of a child in our path. period (imagine being a parent of that child as we were racing).

As disappointed as the racers and fans were .... It was the right decision considering the information being disseminated to organizers at the time.

Looks like this old dude knows how to perdict the weather huh!

Too bad the weather sucked. Down in Hammond waves were 3 to 4 rollers. Good water to run in.

I did kind of miss being the pace boat again.

Ha. You got it right, can't deny that. The NOAA forecast I looked at was wrong, imagine that. The lake been pretty flat all summer, we were due for some BIG water. Too bad you guys didn't make it down. The partynwas still fun. :thankyouthankyou:

Scotty well said pretty much says it all...

StClairRaceFan 08-07-2012 09:48 PM

Not dissing anyone for cancelling a race due to the conditions on the Lake. We had a person drown in Lake Huron on Sunday in Port Huron, the second this year at the beaches. All I was asking was since all the teams traveled so far to a race site, I thought it would be nice to see everyone stick around and still race a week later on the other side of Michigan. We can only hope that one day all differences are put aside and both organizations will join, and everyone can be at the same race sites. There really is a loyal following of people that support both organizations because, in the end, we are all fans of offshore, no matter what the organization is that is putting on a race at a location near us.

No one said you were dissing anyone.
You keep saying that one day all differances can be put aside, I dont think anyone has an isssue those days are long gone you need to let that go.
The issue is like Doc said ppl have schedules and Job they cant just take another weekend off because it close to where they are. With the economy the way it is most of the teams this yr have enough issues just trying to do the schedule they have set, so adding races mid stream isnt going to work. Time off work today is almost as bad an issue as the money part of it. Most of the teams or atleast 90% are home already and doing what they need to do and getting ready for NY in three weeks. There is no line in the sand acept maybe in your mind there are ALOT of teams that run all the organizations they can when they can if that was there schedule ... you make it sound like some racial thing ... I guess if you dont get the boat you want it is a good excuse to blame the line in the sand to make you feel better. No different then KW , do you not think if ever team could afford to spend that kind of money they wouldnt be in KW, forget different organizations they come from all over the world.

So please be part of the solution not part of the problem and stop beating the old racial drum. Everyone knows where the race is next week and if they can make it they will and if it wasnt in there schedule or plan and they cant they wont its that simple.

SWW 08-08-2012 01:48 PM

Well stated Scotty... you are 100% on the mark...
Calling the race while dissapointing, was the correct call...
