Tell Me About The 24 Superboat

I figured that this would be the place to ask for the good and the bad in regards to the the 24 I/O.

I boat the majority of the time on the wild waters of Lake Erie.
Having never been on a 24 Superboat I am wondering what the characteristics would be in something like 2 to 4 confused waves. I am concerned about the free board and how much of a splashing into the cockpit that I could expect.
My other boats had a beam of 8 and 8 1/2 and were much heavier and I am worried about the rocking effect and any movements of passengers with the 7 foot beam.

If I ran on inland lakes and rivers most of the time I would have no concern but I would rather not scare the life out of my wife. :D

2 footers is a great ride. Real 4 footers you will need a bigger boat. I never thought the low freeboard was much of an issue. I RARELY get wet no matter how rough the water.

People really get stuck on the '7 beam thing. That's what makes the boat perform so well for it's size. Passenger room is cut down but that doesn't bother me. 4 adults and a few kids is OK.

Superboats are light, fast, good rough water boats. They are bare bones. If you want all the fluff your looking in the wrong place.

Excluding cats and maybe the "Batboat", I can't think of a '24 foot boat that will out run the SB with equal power.

I will second Dave's thoughts on all counts...
I have had my boat in 5-6 footers, but you have to go slowly and ride standing up.
There is not a better rough water riding 24' boat out there.

Thanks for the replys and keep the info comming.
In reguards to the freeboard.....I was out last weekend with a friend in his 25 Active Thunder which has a deep cockpit. In 94 I had a 24 Baja Outlaw.
In never seeing the Superboat in person I was trying to get an idea of how high it is from the floor to the top of the side.
I could look for pictures of people in their boat but if I did not know how tall they were it would be a tough call.

Thanks,
Cordell

I've been in a 24 Outlaw. I would say the freeboard is close in the two boats. With the Superboat you step down into the cabin which is nice. The Outlaw you have to crawl in. I've never been on a 25 AT. They look a lot like the 26 Sonic that definitly has a deep cockpit. I always sit while driving my boat. I am thinking about getting high back buckets and lowering my seat stands.

My daughter is approx. 4' tall.

I would say that the cockpit depth varies from about 42" down to about 34".
I know I can't pee over the side without standing on the seat...
The fellow standing in the picture is 6'2"; I'm only 5'7"... :D

I know its a different manufacturer, but I think the freeboard is the same.
I'm 5"10".

Re: Tell Me About The 24 Superboat

I had a Condor 24, same ideas...great in the rough, 2'ish is really the max due to the length, but because the boats are narrower, they really do slice through the rough stuff....having not to crawl through a trash can sized opening to get into the cabin...priceless!
superboats'll out run/out handle 24' outlaws, 22' scarabs, even fountain's 24cs,...the sonic 26, however, is a different level...the active thunder, too... the weight being a factor. but, it costs money to move around extra weight...pound per horsepower per dollar, you cant beat a 24x7, non stepped, 24degree, v-bottom...
wish i still had mine....

Just wanted to let you know that this followed me home this weekend after a 2 day stop at Lake Erie for a get acquainted with the new boat session. The weather was just to nice not to take advantage of the situation.

Thanks for your information.
