jackplate on a 24?
i have a 24 with a 225 pro max and wondering if i should go with a jack plate?
|
Re: jackplate on a 24?
I believe the jackplate is a must if your looking for top end as well as a setback if at least 12"
|
Re: jackplate on a 24?
You mean your motor is mounted on the Transom???
if so then Hell Yeah!!! Just ordered the 10" for the Pantera(similar hull), 6" wasnt enough, motor hit the transom when tilted. |
Re: jackplate on a 24?
yes it is on the transom, what is the better brand to go with?
|
Re: jackplate on a 24?
Id do a 12in. setback then add the electric jackplate behind it to pick up an additiional 3-4 in. Good to go in many conditions. Oh yeah Id do transome bracing as well.

Re: jackplate on a 24?
My uncle has a 24' i/o converted it to an o/b with a 12' Setback. Worked out real nice with a 250 EFI, did not ride as good with the o/b but went few mph faster and was more reliable.

Re: jackplate on a 24?
what mph should i hope to pick up by going with the jack plate, or setback?
|
Re: jackplate on a 24?
If I'm not mistaken, Superbash has a 18" on his 2003 24' Superboat. The boat rides and handles sweet.

Re: jackplate on a 24?
Also if setting back the motor. Remember that all that torque on the transom is multiplyed. A tie bar system need to be put in.

Re: jackplate on a 24?
are you guys running 20 or 15" mids? i have a 20"
|
Re: jackplate on a 24?
I think Superbash is running a 20". He's doing a solid 78 mph with a 300 Merc. And she rides beautiful !!

Re: jackplate on a 24?
Hi Guys, i bought lightspeeds 24. it already has a 12" stainless marine set back plate. i asked if a plate would help and he said it's not worth the trouble. it's already set up great, which it is, the thing rocks and loves rough water. my question is if i mounted a plate (detwiler 6") to the stationary bracket what if any benefit would i see? (total 18" setback) also, even if i mounted it on the lowest bolt holes would i screw it up as to only jacking up. one more thing has anyone come up with a good fix for the front bolsters? when we get out in the good snot the bottoms drop out and momma don.t like that, it does make me laugh though. thanks Rick

Re: jackplate on a 24?
RCH662,
Glad your having fun. As for the bolsters. I believe there's a spring clip that the bar fits into under the bottom of the seat. If it's popping out, try compressing the clip (hammer) a little. it might work. As for the setback, why play with it. What are we talking about ??? 1 MPH ??? |
Re: jackplate on a 24?
From what I hear lightspeeds old (your new) 24 runs very respectibly as it is. Maybe leave well enough alone( thats also easy for someone else to say) :D

Re: jackplate on a 24?
Good point, why screw with a good setup. the only reason i would consider it is to get the motor lower in the water for a better hole shot & if it would make it better to take the critters tubein. fx 10 i tried pinching the channels. also drilled out the end of the spring bars and put in cotter keys, no workey any other ideas? may be weld on some tabs and quick release pins? thanks Rick

Re: jackplate on a 24?
Id go around and make sure all the bolts for all the mounting points are secure cause I found on mine a little wiggling from something being loose would cause an issue...Also check the hinge points. I like your idea of fashioning release pins

Re: jackplate on a 24?
Superbash has done just about everything there is to do with his 24'.
12" setback, 18" setback, up, down, 250HP, 300HP, 3 blade, 4 blade... He is the man to talk to... :drink: |
Re: jackplate on a 24?
