Yes! Keith and RA. Please let us know you're OK...
I tried to call my Dad, he also lives in the Houston area, phones were overloaded yesterday. I did get an e-mail that they had boarded up what they thought necessary. He was a bit worried about his sail boat that is kept down near Clear Lake where Kieth and RA boat...
Let's Hope for the best for all on the Gulf Coast...

Well folks, it has been a fun past few days. Living on the Gulf coast means you accept this threat and prepare for it. We did, we're safe, but not yet sure how much damage has occurred. Houston is probably better prepared than many cities to handle this, but even we couldn't have been ready for the evacuation mayhem. With a Category 5 hurricane headed at you, the choice is easy - get out. In my opinion those that didn't were crazy, but now they can say I told you so since the storm turned east.

The SB is locked away in a high spot, strapped to the trailer with cover on - my thoughts were that if it did major flood, the boat would float in the shed with the trailer and then eventually land again. I won't know for another few days before I can get to her. As for me and RA, we hit the road Thursday am for her brother's place in central Texas (Temple) about 220 miles northwest. After 12 hours and moving only 150 miles (that's FAR better than most people who averaged one mile per hour), the cats and us were exhausted and slept in a Walmart parking lot with some FINE examples of humans......:)

We finally made it above the traffic jams and made it to her brothers and crashed. We sit here watching it like everyone else now, hoping we haven't sustained too much damage - we'll update in a day or two. It is amazing what you can pack into a pickup truck when you have to!!

Thanks for all your thoughts! I'm sure we'll be posting some pics soon and hope everyone made it safe - more as we can, let's see if we get a 'reverse gridlock' heading home......

Re: Rita/krackmeup

Whew, back home......

The trip was 200 miles one way, 15 hours out and 7 hours returning!! We had absolutely no damage, very little rain, and winds 'only' up to 50 mph. All in all a great practice run, but with 2.5 MILLION (yes, that's right - 2.5 million) people evacuaing the area, the roads simply cannot move that many people effectively.

I haven't been to the storage shed yet, but snce there was no local flooding I'm not concerned - Monday it's back to normal as the gas stations here re-open one by one with new deliveries. Thansk again for all your thoughts - we live only 24 miles inland of Galveston island so this threat was very real - poor Louisiana!!!!!

I spoke to my Dad this afternoon.
Also, no damage at his or my brothers house in Houston.
I'm sure your boat is fine Keith, my dad's sail boat at Clear Lake had no damage.
Yes, it does real suck for the people along the Gulf farther east... :(
