Re: Hydromotive P5
Yup - one of my buddies has a 31' Sonic and tried the P5 set I used, he saw a decrease similar to PE above.....
|
Re: Hydromotive P5
Got the drive spacer installed, and heavier prop shaft/gear set (now I have an XZ"). The wind was blowing like 30 mph the day I tried to do test runs, so I couldn't get good speed numbers yet.
The handling of my boat was drastically improved, and some friends said the nose was being much better carried (less hull in the water at speed). Best I could tell at mid range I picked up 2-4 mph, but may not have gained at the top end - getting airborne in 30+mph winds above 70 mph gets real interesting in a lightweight Y2K!!!!! WOW!!! Also lost ~150-200 rpm off top end, hitting WOT just under 5000 on the Bravo I 26P non labbed prop - that's something for BBlades to figure out. I hope to report some better comparitve numbers next day out, then call the prop gurus. |
Re: Hydromotive P5
Thanks Keith.

Re: Hydromotive P5
No sweat, this is fun tinkering. I'm going to re-try my buddies Hydromotive five blade PX5 round ear 26P again next week or two and see how it does - Tom what are you tweaking these days on the Y2K?

Sounds like you're have lots of fun tinkering! :D Just a bit of info for you: Reading Ray @ Raylar threads and posts on the 425HP/496HO, dyno testing shows the engine makes peek horsepower at 4900rpm. He says the power drops off after 4900 because the intake and throttle body won't flow enough. Something to consider when you have your prop labbed. Have Fun! :drink: |
Re: Hydromotive P5
Keith, I have not done chit! Too much concentrating on business. Thanks to you we will continue our education. :drink:

Re: Hydromotive P5
Cool Tom, sounds great - let us hear your numbers, I'm still considering more power, probably whipple first, then build a big cube mota after that - mid 80's is where I'd like to be able to run comforatably and dependably.....I still need to add the stereo before the season, I got sidetracked last year but now have a new job and can continue with some of my plans. Should be a busy season!

Re: Hydromotive P5
What are you doing for employment now?
|
Re: Hydromotive P5
Now gainfully re-employed as a Project Manager for deep sea pipeline equip company. I was turning wrenches on boats the last eight months as a gap filler - great experience and got to see the boating world from the inside!

Re: Hydromotive P5
Hey Guys,
Anyone try something new lately? I know Pure Energy hit the water and is testing props. Brothers Gary and Gary are chomping at the bit. Tom? Keith? Razor? Zup? I sent my prop to BBlades and should have it back in about 2 weeks. Hopefully my boat will be ready soon after... |
Re: Hydromotive P5
Pat, the weekend of the 15th I will be doing a family trip to Havasu with the new prop. I'm gonna check the timing on the monster also to see if the builder detuned it before I took delivery. I hope the new stereo does'nt slow me down.

Back to the topic - I still owe BBlades a call to buy a prop, and then tune-in since I put the spacer on. |

What prop are you going to buy? |
Re: Hydromotive P5
Not sure, I'm going to give all my numbers to them and let them tell me. I really liked the P5 I tried, I think it was a 26p, but now with the spacer and everything else settles in, it's a new game - why, do have one????

Brett does not think a 5 blade would gain me much as the slip is 10% on my boat with a Bravo I. I do plan on trying a 5 blade at some point soon though. We'll see how she runs after I get my 28p back and go from there... |

Pat, What exactly are they tweaking on your 28? pitch, cup? |

280 K-plans, but I like to run them up unless I'm in the rough. |

Pat, What exactly are they tweaking on your 28? pitch, cup? Also, when I trim up there is a fine line between running fast and the prop breaking free. The second mod is a slight rake and cup change so the bow can be carried with less trim. T-Mone, here on OSO, has a 24' Pantera and says the Hydro P5X is by far the best prop he has run, but I can bring myself to brake the bank until I try one. |

Since I've been slowly adding weight - stereo, interior, porta-potti, etc I felt the boat needed more bow lift, hence the 1" spacer installed a few months ago. Now I'm running her hard again to see speed at rpm to report to BBlades and fine tune a prop, as I do want a spare (the 26p Bravo 1). Did I mention I was one happy SB'er??? WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? Thanks again Rick and JC!!!!! |

Thanks again Rick and JC!!!!! A 30'+ boat that will run 72-74mph with a stock 425HP/496cube engine. And get 3mpg cruising at what? 60+mph. My 24' only goes 2-3mph faster with a 415HP/502 and burns more fuel for sure... :p My guess is that the new 30' Y2K2 will go 2mph faster. So throw a set of those CMIs on a 496HO and she'll probably top out consistently over 75mph and maybe 78 on the perfect day. :evilb: |
Re: Hydromotive P5
I agree Pat, and I still get this big grin every outing. Sure I wish for more speed (who doesn't?), but ya know what, there's always someone faster and the reliability is cool. I still can't believe that for once, I made a great decision on my major purchase, and after a year haven't had any true regrets. Thanks again go out to one of my buddies who posts as Bglz42 for prodding me towards SB.

Re: Hydromotive P5
Keith, did you pick up any speed with the spacer ??? Damn , 74.1 with a stock HO.........................Thats Fast !!!!!!
|
Re: Hydromotive P5
Yes and no - yes in the midrange, 2-3mph but no top end.
