Light Layup Hull Option
What exactly does this entail? What is the difference in hull construction to the normal layup. And how can you tell if your hull has this option?
|
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
It's fully foam cored with Divyncell, no Balsa core.
|
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
also alot $$. Foam is ALOT more expensive then Balsa core.
|
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
Thanks FX10 that is exactly what I was wondering. Does the foam offer as much strength as the balsa? Couple of guys have mentioned that they think my hull may have this option. Is there an easy way to tell(boat is a '96 24) The dry weight on the orignal factory test sheet says 3260lbs with the 454 mag

Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
it's not a lightweight hull if it's a 24'. they all were done from the chine down with balsa core.
|
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
Checked with Bob today. No 24's were built with a lightweight layup. There was "1" 21' which is owned by Joey Impresia , of East Coast Marine, supposedly it goes in the ballpark of 104mph.

Gary, the original owner of that boat, told me it was a "lightweight" hull. Also, I believe Oh-Zone said his 24' was a lightweight layup? |
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
My Bad !! I was mistakeing the lightweight hull for the race hull. Anyway, the only difference will be in the layup. Instead of alternating layers of 1 1/2oz. mat and 24oz. roving. The layup is 3 ply of 1708. Still have the balsa from the chine down.
I'm thinking of doing my 21' fully foamed. I know the other one is being built with a race layup. What the hell. :) |
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
Is there any strength advantage/disadvantage from one layup to the other or just the weight difference? By the way I cannot wait to see the process start on your new 21! Thanks Pat for Jogging FX's memory!

Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
In my opion, I think longividy would be he factor between the balsa and the foam. I have fixed a few foam cored race boats, I don't think they can handle flex like a balsa core hull. Don't get me wrong, they are strong.

Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
but the question is ( is john selling and building the boats the one in the picture is a friend of mine and that boat was built 2 years ago).
i have a 1986 that i had john make me and i love that boat but it just seems to me like hes not trying to sell the 21. i would love to see him make the old deck on the 21 again it was a much better looking boat than it is today |
Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
Hoser I couldn't agree with you more. I have a 79 and I would bye an 06' if they had the old deck.I just don't like the new (baja type) style. But thats just my opinion.

Re: Light Luayup Hull Option
Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure Nigle Hook got started racing a 21 along with Joey Impressia.
