what is a y2k ?

Hi guys, sorry to seem stupid, but what is the y2k? is there more room in the cockpit , than a 24' outboard ? is it a few feet in the bow and a few feet for the swim pad? is there more freeboard than the 24' ? are any stand up boats ? one of these days i'd dig to see one in person, but for now i just keep showin momma on the superboat web site thats our next boat. thanks Rick

The cockpit is about the same size as the 24 I/O. The Y2K is about 7' longer including the integrated platform. The engine compartment looks to be slightly longer on the on the Y2K. I'm guessing the freeboard is close. I consider my 24 to be a sit down boat. Others may say different.

thanks guys, so the y2k is not a stand up boat ? so size wise would they be comparable to lets say a 252 0r 272 baja ? sorry to make the comparison, don't like baja's, just want to get an idea, some times wish i would'nt live so far away so i could see one in person, so for now all i can do is drool. love my 24 super, so all is good anyway. Rick

No way, the Y2K is 31' 8" LOA. The 272 is 27' 2".

Re: what is a y2k ?

I've been in both the Baja 272 and the Y2K.... the baja has more beam therefore the cockpit feels bigger but lengthwise I would say that is a fair comparison in cockpit feel. The biggest difference in those 2 is looking out over the fairings.... the baja has like 15' of nose and the SB has what seems like 25'. My personal opinion is until you get into the bigger bajas they feel like cruisers where the SB feels like a racer. Kinda like the difference between a mustang and a corvette.....

rch662, I had a 232 baja for a while, was all ready to trade up to the 275, nice boats with a lot of eye candy ( stuff to break ). The 275 with the 496 HO was over 20K more than a Y2K.............Do yourself a favor and buy a Y2K with any power option you want, and save a ton of money, be the first on your block to have one...............and never look back !!!!

Re: what is a y2k ?

hey lightspeed, alls going good. your new boat looks great, more pics please. yeah startin to think of a y2k. from what i gather you need to put in an order almost a year in advance. bussiness has been good , so i'm maybe thinkin the end of next summer. anyway it's a bit early to kick tires with john c. what would be a price ball park on a y2k with a deluxe cabin, gotta do 70-75 mph with 4 people and 1/2 a tank of fuel, pump out head, all livorsi gauges, gotta have the embroidered emblem on the swim pad, steering ? k planes ? mounted on an eagle painted trailer. any other options i might want/need? thanks and may you and yours have a good christmas Rick

Re: what is a y2k ?

Rich,
With a full done cabin, carpeted, porta potti, bulkhead hatch's and a 496HO. Your probably talking in the ballpark of 60-64K. Will do around 74mph. Standard Y2K with 496mag, turn key is 56K, does around 68-69mph.

Re: what is a y2k ?

thanks Rick, would that include a trailer ? if not what are you guy's paying for a new eagle trailer? also what and how much are the taxes on a new boat in newyork state ? thanks Rick

Superbabi 12-25-2005 12:17 PM

Re: what is a y2k ?

rch662, you should pay sales tax in your own state when you Reg. with MV for your #'s.

Re: what is a y2k ?

Hi superbabi, i live in canada so i don'nt know if state taxes apply. i do know i have to pay p.s.t. and g.s.t. = 15% plus currency exchange, not sure now 23% ish. therefore in the tune of an additonal 40%. i'd like to stay under 100 grand, or if over, might have to wait for a used one to come up. that would be good and bad. thats why i'm just tire kickin at this point to see if it's a pipe dream or not. i'm almost 44 and won't do the in debt thing no mo. thanks Rick

Re: what is a y2k ?

Rick, am I under standing you, 38 to 40% over the cost of the boat to get it into your country. If thats the case you still can do Y2K new with all your needs. To find a used Y2K can be pretty tough, there is only 20-22 hulls out there since the year of 2000. I would call JC on a price, If it pans out great, If not thats what he is there for. Good luck.............Gary

I am very curoius about superboats i own a 25 sunsation aggressor w/ is very similar to the 24 superboat, we looking to upgrade to a larger boat ,the y2k came to mind , was wondering w/ the smaller beam like mine (7' also) if moving side to side in the cockpit if the boat leans like mine does , hate that but am used to it now , boat has to have tabs?I like that sports car feelling mine has, she has a built 454 mag that does 76-77 mph and really don't want to give that up going to a larger boat....thanks

It is somewhat weight sensative like yours, but not as much I'm sure because of the extra lenght and weight. A Tab is only used at slow speeds sometimes. Once flyin she levels good no matter who's on the other side.

Re: what is a y2k ?

Trimman,
The Y2k should satisfy your need for speed. With a 496HO you'll see around 74mph. Once bitten is trying a new prop this weekend, and he has that setup. He's hoping to see 78. Total length of the Y2K is 32', because of the 2' intergrated swim platform. The best difference between your hull and the Y2K is that you can go through nearly any kind of water.

Rick
