I assume that Strip Poker 388 here at OSO might be guilty of that engine in some way?! :drink:

Yup !! Gotta admit, it''s pretty impresive. Would love to see a pair of those in a Y2K. ;)

Holy Crap! 1.9HP/cube naturally aspirated...
I wonder what kind of fuel that thing runs on?
I'll take one of those in my 24'... :evilb:

Crazy George gets 830HP or 1000HP out of his 432cube SBC but that is with 10 or 15 lbs of boost... :drink:

Yes...
I wonder what it idles at? 1500+ I'm sure.
Might need a crash box to hook it to an out-drive.

I love the sound of a screamin smallblock...

Its not going to idle for long . Who noticed the problem with the oil pressure. Anybody Anybody.

Real nice, a pair in a Y2K............AWESOME !!!!!

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

You can take it easy on them and cruise at 7000 rpm. LOL

I wonder what prop you would run?

Biggie does a 434 CI Small Block Marine motor, 10:1, pump gas, Solid Roller cam, 600 HP on the Dyno sheet, 6000 RPM redline.

doesn't rev like the one in the vid, but

It's a boat motor

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

Pretty sick you can rev a SB that high... Be like having a Nascar motor in your boat!!!

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

Rob,
I'm by no means an engine expert, but this is my take on performance marine engines for pleasure boats.
For a naturally aspirated engines 1.1-1.2HP per cube tops. More than that the idle quality and reliability is going to be poor.
If you want a 500+HP small block for a boat, their are two choices. Supercharged or high dollar tall deck engine...

Dregsz 01-27-2006 12:26 PM

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

You can rev big blocks really high too. people think the shouldn't for some reason, but big blocks love to rev.

You aren't gonna do it in a boat though, the limiting factor on rpms in boats is drive breakage above 6000 rpm and cam selection which is all bottom end torqure. high reving car motors have no bottom end. they are built to run with a higher rpm range, say 3500-9000 rpm. they won't likely idle at 750 rpm and would stall trying to shift into gear or break the drive tranny shifting into gear w a high idle

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

My advice is pass on the SBCs mount a BIG BLOCK,
even big cube sbcs, just say no.

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

Can't use BB they wont fit unless you give up all the cockpit... With the Y2K being so lite I would think you could sacrafice some torq for more mid-high power?

We Had A Pair Of ZUL Motors In ARMED AND DANGEROUS 372 Ci 750 HP Reved At 7500 What A Sound Stellings Into A Y Pipe Unbeliveable Those Motors Pushed a 32 Mirage With Crash Boxes And #3s At 100 +

John That Is My Favorite Boat Of All Times. Lattona And Scrow Made It Look Like A Ride To Kismet. Zul Made 750hp With A 372 And That Was 15 Years Ago. Some Builder Cant Match His Talent 15 Years Later. What Can Build Today.

A big block is like 2"s longer then a small block.
It won't fit?

2" longer, 4" wider, 4" taller, 200lbs heavier, and...
Small blocks are the way to go for a twin engine 30' Supper.

Side by side would make the engines a real PIA to work on.
I think with the stagger they won't be that tight.

The post was that there would be no cockpit room w a bbc, and I replied that it's 2"s longer.
Side by side, no argument that it would be tight, but a single 750 hp 572 or 598 motor is a pretty good way to go, unless you are going to put blowers on the small blocks. But there is no stagger in a 30' boat so the single BBC is going to have better wt dist then a pair of 6.2s

HuntingtonBeach 02-03-2006 06:43 PM

Re: 730+ HP smallblock

My rationale for not using one huge ass BBC was that the drive had to a #6... too much money, too much weight, and too much for props.

Because the BB's are wider you run into other problems with placement that would force the motors farther forward... to the point that the back seat has no leg room vs. the SB set up where there should still be enough to be confortable.
