superboat transoms
Hi all, i was just doing some clean up on my 24', when i pulled the caps off the top of the transom to have them powder coated, i was surpised to find the core does'nt appear to be plywood, or is just the top capped off with a resin and something mix ? and are the transoms plywood from there on down ? thanks for any input. to my knowledge all the transoms are ply with the top glassed and gelled.

Re: superboat transoms
The transom and motor well are glass together. The top edge has around a 3/8" hollow, which is filled with a resin/sawdust mixture. The stuff is very strong, much stronger then a cab o sil and resin mixture. Under that, the plywood transom is fully encapsulated with fiberglass. If you see a crack in the filler on the top of the transom, don't worry about it. It's cosmetic, not structural. Squirt a little 5200 in there and put the cap back on.
