Spark Trouble
Anybody Know Thunderbolt Ignition Glitches? Out Checking My New 3 Blade And Ignition Today The Prop Shows Some Potential Running 50mph At 3000 Rpm But Went To Stop For A Beverage Shut The Motor Down And No Spark For A Restart! 20 Minutes Later The Spark Has Returned And Runs Ok Only To Shut Down To See If It Happens Again And Sure Enough No Spark? Could It Be The Module In The Distributer ? Msd Recommended Mounting The Coil Uprite Could Be An Issue. The Also Said When A Box Goes They Dont Come Back So Thats Out. It Must Be Running For Superfest.

I agree with lightspeed, change the pickup first. I would also check for a crack it the coil...

Re: Spark Trouble
New Coil And Install Missing Ground Wire To Bottom Of Distributor With No Effect. Still No Restart After A Shutdown, Going To Replace The Mod In The Dist Next. I Did Spot Rick In The Mako. 50 Is Fast For A Mako With A Single.

Check the wiring of your ignition circuit (purple wires). I had a strange problem with an ignition switch once. I finally replaced the switch and the purple wires to and from. When she won't restart, see if you are getting power to the coil. Do you have a full MSD system or is it an add on to a Merc Thunderbolt? You could try without the MSD box also; I've heard guys have funky things happen with those too. |
Re: Spark Trouble

Re: Spark Trouble
Start it up at night and look for sparks or arcking of your wires, same thing happened to me in my 24' Super I/O last year: MSD coil had a crack in the porclin.

Re: Spark Trouble
What's next Zup?
DUI sells and new Billet Distributor with built in coil and module for around $300. To add the rev limiter is about $120. I have only heard good things about their stuff... |
Re: Spark Trouble
Going To Start From Scratch. The Plugs Are All Fouled, And Thats From Just Running It At The House. I Moved The 6al Box To The Motor To Eliminate The Boat Wiring.the Weather Pacs Worked Well For Bypassing The Msd Box. If It Craps Out I Can Bypass It. This Problem Needs To Walked Away From For A Day And Reverify Everything. Its Like A Speedmaster Drive Install You Can Try To Put It On For An Hour With No Success, Walk Away Come Back In An Hour And It Goes Rite In .

Re: Spark Trouble
Dont Know What It Was. But Its Gone Now. Motor Still Running On The Fat Side. Was Able To Clean It Up A Bit. With A Rejet And Smaller Power Valves. Only Wacked It Once And Not Let It Build Some Steam Yet, So Far Just Touched 87 But The Rpm Was Down A Bit. Those Mufflers Do Kill Some Rpm

He's running with more than us for sure... :D :p :drink: |
Re: Spark Trouble
The Motor Was Not Dynoed After The Changes . Installed New Aluminam Heads Another Carb And An Air Pump. All Small Still Fits Under The Flat Hatch. I Think The 18 Inch 3 Blade Prop Helped Alot.

Didn't you lower the engine a bit when you installed the speedy? :evilb: :p :D :drink: :D  |
Re: Spark Trouble
Yes The Motor Was Able To Go Down 1 Inch For The Proper Drive Height. With The New 10 Quart Canton Pan I Had To Install A Shortie Bildge Pump. The Shaft Is Now 1 Inch Below The Bottom . The Balance On The Boat Should Be Incredable.
