Y2K Outboard Cockpit
Since there has been so much talk about the Y2K hulls lately. It is my understanding that the outboard(s) are mounted to the transom with a well!?!.....considering that, is it possible (w/o major reengineering) to extend the length of the cockpit on O/B models??
|
Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
Of course it is possible. Thats if you want to pay for all the extra tooling. ;) . Coen probably wouldn't even do it though.

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
That's what I figured...Thanks!!

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
I HEARD A RUMOR THAT JOHN IS THINKING OF A 30' Y2k BOWRIDER ANY TRUTH TO THAT, IT'S POSSIBLY GOING THROUGH A TALKING STAGE AT SUPERBOATS HQ ? OT IS THIS BS ?

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
I havent heard that, but I paid him a visit on Saturday and he was talking of a potential staggered 496 setup where the back seat would be on one side of the boat and the staggered engine would be on the other. This way the boat would not just be a 2 seater. Cool idea.

He can buy (2) 496HO Bravo packages for less than 1/2 what a 850HP #6 costs... I guess a boat that will run 75-80mph is not good enough anymore... For me, a Y2k with a fuel injected 600HP engine hooked to a Bravo XR would be about the best combo... |

looks wise? I have been out on the Y2K outboard board. I used to hang out with the owner a lot while we were in college. When the boat was new I had my 27 Progression at the time. Alan rigged it with twin 2.5's. The boat I have to say did look pretty cool because it was the only one built. Plus I am not a fan of molded swim platforms adding length for no reason. My wife made me put the swim platform on the current boat but besides the fact that it keeps some of the noise muffled I am not convinced yet. The Y2K outboard boat was pretty fast. I believe he got it to just over 90 after the race brains were installed. It was a little ass heavy though with the outboards. I remember running out of Jones Inlet the night before the Poker run from Patty McGees in 4 foot swells and the stern would fall like a brick after the boat left the water. But that boat was fast........ I will try and get in touch with Alan as I have not talked to him in a couple of years. He used to roam around OSO but I have not seen him here in a long time. Maybe he can post some pics... |

If I was to build a 600HP engine it would be a naturally aspirated stroked 502 (540cube) that would run on 89 octane...:evilb: |

A center console version, not a bow rider. There is a company out there with a simular hull, in a center console version, single 250 merc. And it does around 60. He's thinking about it, thats all. |

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
I Happen to be very good friends with alan who owns the y2k with outboards. Had dinner with him last night, the boat is at his house, transom cracked and factory would not repair it under warranty, so boat has been sitting under wrap, motors are off in storage, but needs glass work, I dont remember details but Dont think john would do anything under any warranty terms. (dont hold me to that) but this conversation was over a year or plus ago and he lost interested in boat after all that. but it is in freeport,
|
Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
How can a structural problem not be covered under the warranty?
|
Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
i heard a similar story a while back.....
if he he has no interest in the boat anymore he should sell it to someone who will fix and enjoy it.... |
Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
Will speak to alan today in regards to the story behind the repair. Being in the business i hate to make accusations based on hear say, maybe they did want to repair it?? but my memory tells me they told him to scratch, will verify. and find out if for sale, (dont think he is selling though)

Re: Y2K Outboard Cockpit
I think the Y2k bowrider would make a great boat, it seams like lots of mfgs are going that route these days, bowriders are back in - maybe not here but out mid-west and west US. things that start out West come here short times later.

The Raylar? Pat, i,m guessing the 30s. bit its also 750hp. i think that intake alone is worth the price of admission. |
short shaft's
At one time someone said that the O/B 30 had 15'' motors. Where the motors bolted to the back of the boat or where they on brackets. I owned a 1989 30 with twin v8's and it ran pretty well. It had a front 90 gal fuel tank in the bow and transfer pumps to transfer fuel from the rear tank to the front. It was rigged with a stand up ony front on pice boulster
seat. It was red and white. vin was # sby10227d989 I think a new bottem y2k could go well into the 90's. |
who rigged the y2k? Thinking of a y2k with outboards what is the right way to rig it? Does it have to be a special build to handle outboards? I had a 24 with twins rigged by Ocean Outboard and it had some transom problems.

what are the fastest speeds anybody has heard of for the old 30's with outboards????????
