Y2K with airated bottom

Jeff ( JC Performance) was at the shop last week to drop off a prop for the turbine. He was also admiring the new bottom. He thinks this bottom will be the ticket fot this hull. He also told me about a hull that got like 6 mph from airating the steps on their hull. I've heard of this for a few years now. And it got me thinking. I even ran the idea by Coen. He didn't kill it either. Who knows.... maybe down the line I can experiment with it. The hull would probably look something like this one.
Notice the black holes in the steps ?? Hmmmmm. Might have something there.

Nice work Rick!!
Ive heard on some bigger boats that they run the exauhst through the vents. Would that work on a Y2k?
Anyhow the new bottom Looks Awesome!! Im sure it will run even better!!!!!!!

I saw a 39' Outerlimits with air holes in the steps like that at the Hartford boat show last winter.
It was rigged with twin Merc 600sci, Bravo XR, 6 blade H props, and was supposed to run close to 100mph.
Sounds like a great idea...

Yep, Outerlimits has been doing it for a couple of years.
When's the first boat with the new bottom going to be done??

Isn't OuterLimits the boats that spinout in every corner? I'll keep my bottom thank you. Sometimes safety has to be a larger concern than a couple mph. Maybe make them as a race only for non family boating situations.

Where do you get your info. There have been some due to driver error. Look at Ol's new race boat, it turns on a dime. The 42's were the ones that had some of the handling issues at high speeds. I was on one at 110 and it was very stable. We also did a nice wide turn at 90 and it felt totally hooked up. The step boats only spin out due to people's inablility to drive a boat, and push the boat to it's limits. Outerlimits is one, if not the leader in Vee hull's and now Cat's.:D

fx10, you may want to contact jack domick, from Hydra Powerboats. I think he has some experience w/ airation.

I have some pics of a Kryptonite hull w/ air outlets at the step. Not sure if they plumbed the exhaust out it or what.

I personally think it would be worth trying.

ceptor, can you post the pics ?? Thanks
