Your right Gary, thats what Coen told me. I wonder how fast it will go. Will my Mako be able to beat it ?? :)

How about a pair of these?

Yannmar does make some high output engines but they are real heavy.
The engines Storm has listed are interesting but the closest dealer is in FLA. This would be my choice in a diesel sterndrive. http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/na/e...ve/d6-350_dpr/ Rick's Mako is going to be faster unless you install 2...:evilb: |
Pat, i thought there was a dealer in Freeport.
That was over 2yrs ago when i talked to marine diesel. |

I love diesel power!! My last to pickups were diesel and it was so easy to gain 115 hp just by putting in a "chip"!!! Then change the turbo, injectors and your really making power!
I have read where turbo gas motors are not preferred because of the relationship between turbo lag and propping. The intercooler hose popped off my truck once and the motor had zero power without the turbo. I have not paid close attention to the marine diesels available, but noticed the smaller motors, the ones that would be light enough for a smaller boat, do not have the HP that we look for to get speed. Also have no idea about the torque ratings, that are as important as hp. Is there anyone able to get more power out of these motors via computer changes, etc, and still maintain reliability?? Would the 34 with "appropriate" diesels work well in a staggered set up, to offset being stern heavy? |
A single motor in a 34' seems odd to me, Pat how much power does does the Yannmar make ???

http://www.yanmarmarine.com/products/index.php The Yanmar engines that are similar in size to a big block Chevy are in the 300HP range. |

The 350HP Volvo diesel with DPR drive is 1700lbs. A Merc 375HP or 425HP 496cube with Bravo drive is 1200lbs. And a BBC and Konrad drive is about 1400lbs. The stern lift from a dual prop outdrive would help some. Honestly, I think a single in the 34 is going to be a slug... |
From what I hear. He wants a single 440 Yanmar. The motor isn't much larger size wise then a bb. Weight wise is a different matter. He better start thinking about a 2 or 3 speed tranny to go with that setup. I'd hate for my Mako to swoop is arse. ;)

Pat, here is the info I got from Marine Diesel.
"Thanks for your inquiry. We actually do have a mobile technician that has done some installations for us in that area. We current available models are from 170-330HP. The 400HP Tigershark is actually under development and will be available around the summer of 2008." I have attached the spec on the 300hp version... just over 500ft/lb torque... nice. I'm sure the 350-400hps higher revving would be even better for HPs. |
