Question for you Rick/FX10

As I was asking in the other thread about doing a silver color in gel coat, how do you guys go about a design? Do you have some blank drawings of the Y2K and let the buyer have at it? If you can do a silver and metallic blue, what are we talking about extra money wise over typical gel colors. I think a silver or maybe more platinum/titanium color would look good. I am planning ahead. The plan right now is to put the 24 up for sale around July of 2008 and order the Y2K. I'm just starting to plan the the thing out in my head and have some fairly specific ideas. Hopefully they'll be able to come to fruition without having to spend buku extra$$! What do you think, is that metallic gel just a little more at cost, or is it stupid more?

See what you can come up with in your head. We had customers who took pics of a plain white boat and had a graphics guy scan it, then he played with designs.
As far as the gelcoat goes. We're only talking 9 gallons to do both the hull and deck. It does cost more, probable a few hundred more.

You know touching up something like that is not going to be pretty. And dont kid yourself if you think its not going to get scratched.

jayhawk261 05-15-2007 09:08 AM

Nah, It'll never get scratched, I'm a perfect driver!:D

You think it would be a big problem? I wonder if the gel manufacturer can provide some kind of "touch-up paint" or something like that. Something to think about anyway. Thanks for the input. That is something I hadn't thought about.

Jayhawk, are you going Y2K soon ??? :D

What about a crushed pearl silver? Eliminator is now using crushed pearl gel. That would look awesome. Been thinking of it myself . . .

Let's just say there is some discussion around our house about the 2009 boating season

I do really like the Eliminator colors. To be honest, their silver and deep metallic blue paint schemes are what I've been basing my color preferences on.

What motor are you thinking ???

jayhawk261 05-15-2007 02:57 PM

I haven't decided on anything yet, but as of right now I'm leaning towards 650 - 750 hp EFI engine. Maybe something like a Derebery or someone else who will put a nice package together with a warranty. In that event, we would most likely go with a Konrad drive. As I said, we are just in the thinking stage right now, but I am going to work towards making it a reality. I think if we put the 24 up for sale around July 08, it should go pretty fast. Then we can place our order for the Y2K.

Good luck with your plan !!!

Well, Rick, if we do go ahead with the Y2K, we will most likely get to see what that color combo looks like :D Just don't build it for anybody else in the mean time. Then I'll have to come up with a new scheme!

FF2, when the time comes, I'll give you guys a shout. I will most likely have any engine and drive sent to JC and factory rigged. The important thing is to get some kind of warranty on the setup. I know there are a lot of engine builders out there, but finding the ones who will build a high quality product and stand behind it is much more difficult.

Talk to Back4More here on OSO. He has a pair of 800s we built in his fountain
